Arriving at consensus can be a challenge when a leader is facilitating a decision-making process in which the
end result is determined by the collaborative work of the group. Such discussions often lead to the emergence of
a variety of perspectives and strategic leaders facilitate the stewardship of a vision of learning that is shared and
supported by the school community when they develop vision with others, use data to make informed decision,
and address competing priorities. To demonstrate my understanding of such leadership, I present the agenda and
one of the documents used to facilitate a dialogue amongst the Westside Community Schools Calendar
Committee, whom is charged with the creation of the student calendar for the next three school years. Planning
and leading this committee taught facilitation skills as well as the importance of gathering multiple perspectives
on an issue before making decisions that affect many stakeholders.
