MISGUIDED ZEAL

In his essay College Uneducation, Bocobo believes that college students nowadays are
uneducated. One of the factors is the misguided zeal or loss of philosophy in life. Students
typically set their philosophy before entering college. But because of book worshiping and
focusing on over specializing their target profession, students already buried their main goal
deep inside their heads. They often forgot to ask themselves again what is the main purpose of
choosing such certain course.
Our group however, firmly disproves Bocobos perspective towards college students. We
believe that amidst all the circumstances in life, there are still college students that are totally
different from those students labeled by Bocobo. This is truly proven with what the main
character in the play is trying to portray. Her words and actions gave a picture of what an ideal
college student is. She chose Accountancy not because it is the course that her parents want or
that this course is a high payed job. She chose Accountancy simply because from the very start,
it is the course that she wants to take. She believes that she is competent enough and suitable
with this degree program. Unlike others, the main character did not take for granted the act of
choosing a course. She chose a course that is much related to what she really wants. Upon
entering college and be able to experience the difficulties and pain that her course offers, she
still managed to be an optimist just like before. She is much determined to learn rather than just
to pass for she strongly believes that her main goal in entering college and choosing
Accountancy as a course is merely learning. She plans to have a CPA title and apply all the
things she learned with the work that awaits her and most importantly in the world of commerce.
To wrap it up, not all college students had a misguided zeal and had loss ones own
philosophy in life. There are still students who desire much to learn rather than just to pass
alone. Nevertheless, many of them chose certain course because it is what they truly want and
not because it is what the society wishes them to take. They do not let themselves be influence
by the societys labels may it be positive or negative. They let themselves to speak up and use
their freewill to decide.
