Chronological Bible Reading: Exodus 10-12; Matthew 15:21-39

Matt. 20:8 So when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward,
Call the labourers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first.

Luke 17:17-18 And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are
the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.

Oh Lord of the Vineyard:

You are a good paymaster, because you pay your servants while they work
as well as when they finish. So I ask you to help me draw others to you, so they
can get the same payments I have, for working in your vineyard.

I am paid with a clear conscience

Let me testify faithfully about Jesus even to __________ this week. I want
to free my conscience of their blood, by warning them about hell and witnessing
about the gospel, by combining my testimony with your terms of forgiveness.

I am paid with consolation in service

Let me place jewels in Jesus crown, come what may. Let me make him
know the travail of his soul was worth something (Isa. 53:11), because I
endured suffering and pain to see others, like __________ get saved.

I am paid by being able to watch conviction first bud in a soul

Let me pray today for __________, who is tender of heart. Lord, work
within! Give me the joy of hope to see them get saved, in one of our services.

I am paid with the joy of true success

This satisfaction, overwhelming as it is, is a hungry thingI long for more!
Make me a soulwinner, because with every soul I bring to Jesus I get a new
heaven on earth. Make me experience the same joy Christ has over seeing one
lost sinner come home, and take part in the reward for toiling with Jesus, and
completing that which is lacking in his sufferings to reach the lost. Let me sow
with him, so I can reap by his Spirit! This I ask, Jesusaccording to your will, in
your name, and by your power. Amen.

Merciful Savior:
What sights you see as you look at our sin-sick world! The sad thing is, we
never recognize nine-tenths of your merciful response to our plight. Oh, give me
the frankincense of gratitude. Let my life-reactions distill into dew-drops of
praise. Do not allow me to become dry in thankfulness to you!
One day in seven is devoted to your worship, but not one person in
ten is really devoted to your praise. How is that, Lord? There are many more
who receive benefits, than ever give you thanks for them. Shame on us! Life,
health, eyesight, hearing, love, friendship, relationshipsand yet, is there one
time in ten who praise you for these? I do, my Healer, my Savior!
Lam. 3:22-23 It is of the LORDS mercies that we are not consumed, because his
compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
I confess I do not praise you Lord, either fitly, proportionately, or intensely
enough. I receive a continual stream of mercies, yet only whine about my
inconveniences! The number of my requests is far greater than the number of
times when I really praise. Why do I wait for a miracle to praise you? One would
think every time I pray I would also praise, but it is not so. I should begin with
adoration, but my requests are often so petty and selfish. I pray when I think Im
about to die, but then you deliver me and my praise dies instead!
Prayer is for time, but praise is for eternity. I know I need both, but
praise really deserves the highest and best place. Prayer is for the beggar I feel like
I am, but praise is for the Kings kid I know I am. Help my praise follow naturally
on the heels of my prayer. Do it because Jesus is worthy. Amen.

My Lord Jesus:
Revival is your quickening visitation of your people, touching our hearts,
to deepen your work of grace in our lives. In revival you make your presence
known among us. In revival you reveal yourself as holy God. You throw my sin
up on the screen. Give me a special urgency for revival! Help me take the
proper action, because Ive lost my first love. Ive slowed my pace in the race, yet
Psa. 42:1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O
God.
If I am not living in the light of your love, then the next best thing is to be
unhappy until I have it, and pant hourly after it. When it is as natural for me to
long after you as for an animal to thirst, then it is well with my soul (no matter
how depressed my feelings!). There are special promises to those who pant.
Psa. 42:3 My tears have been my meat day and night,
Salty meat, but healthy to my soul.
Psa. 42:4 When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me:
Why do I dwell on depressing ideas, and always let them dominate and
consume me? The result is certainly no value. For me to turn my soul on
itselfto keep emptying it from itself into itself as I dwell on hurts of the
pastis useless. How much better for me to pour-out my heart before you!
Psa. 42:5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul?
That is some good self talk! Hope carries stars in her tears. Help me
use such heroic language in my own gloomy hours. Give me the depth and
breadth of spirit to totally trust you in the hardest, very hardest times I could ever
go through. Revive me and turn my life into a song for Jesus sake. Amen.

A DAILY PATTERN FOR PRAYER & BIBLE READING

Chronological Bible Reading: Exodus 13-15, Matthew 16
Thursday, January 26

Gen. 32:26 And [the Angel] said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And [Jacob] said,
I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.

NAY, I cannot let Thee go till a blessing Thou bestow:

Do not turn away Thy face, mines an urgent, pressing case.
Dost Thou ask me who I am? Ah! my Lord, Thou knowst my name;
Yet the question gives a plea to support my suit with Thee.
Thou didst once a wretch behold, in rebellion blindly bold,
Scorn Thy grace, Thy power defy: that poor rebel, Lord, was I.
Once a sinner, near despair, sought Thy mercy seat by prayer;
Mercy heard, and set him free: Lord, that mercy came to me.
Many days have passed since then, many changes I have seen;
Yet have been upheld till now; who could hold me up but Thou?
Thou hast helped in every need; this emboldens me to plead:
After so much mercy past, canst Thou let me sink at last?
No, I must maintain my hold; tis Thy goodness makes me bold;
I can no denial take, when I plead for Jesus sake.
John Newton, Olney Collection, 1779

Rev. 12:12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the
inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath,
because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
Heavenly King and Great God:
We bless you, because the outcome of the battle between yourself and all
the powers of darkness has never been uncertain. We praise your name that from
this moment it is sure to end in victory, even in our own lives! Our hearts, in the
middle of the struggles of the present day, look back to the conflict on Calvary,
and see how the Lord there broke the head of the Serpent forever. Hallelujah!
Lord, help us recognize we are contending with a vanquished enemythe
regime is replaced. Help us understand we go out to fight against one who, even
with all his subtlety and strength, is already overthrown by our Captain, our
Leader, our Husband, Jesus. We do not defeat his army, we release their captivity!
So Lord, there are people depressed in our congregation because they feel
like the serpent is nipping at their heels. Help them praise the name of Jesus,
whose heel was bruised before theirs, as he broke the serpents head. Our souls
and songs of inward joy extol him as our Conqueror. Especially at the
commencement of this, our breakout year, all honor and glory go to the Christ
who stood toe-to-toe with the enemy and made him tap out. Help our spirits
triumph just in anticipation of the time when all our enemies are destroyed, and
even death and hell are cast into the lake of fire, and God is our all in all.
Oh that today you might return! Help us be prepared to come out of all
battles in the glory with which your love arrays us. Glory, honor, majesty, power,
dominion, might and all praise unto Jesus who sits on the throne. Let him rule
and reign in our midst until the kingdom comes! Amen.

Gal. 5:7 Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?

Psa. 78:16 He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down
like rivers.
Lord, I Thank You for Grace:
Moses split the rock in the wilderness. It was a divine supply for Israels
dehydration, and should have kept them forever faithful to their wonder-working
God. Torrents, not driblets came out to slake their thirst. Streams in the desert
followed their campnot for an hour, nor for a day, but for their entire journey.
Psa. 68:19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our
salvation. Selah
What a marvel of grace! How much more gratitude do I owe you? Rivers of
love have flowed to me in this worldly wilderness. To question you is to speak
against you. How sad I have so often complained about my blessings, and longed
for the fulfilling of some vanity. I (to my shame) have counted your gifts to be
nothing because they did not happen just like I hoped, imagined or wanted.
Luke 24:25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe:
This brings me to repentance!
Psa. 78:25 Man did eat angels food: he sent them meat to the full.
The delicacies of royalty were outdone, because you supplied Israel the
elegance of angels food. The bread of the mighty has been supplied to man.
Gospel provisions in the dispensation of grace deserve every praise I can bring.
The bread of life is just as free, full and abundant today as the manna ever was!
Help me feed on Jesus, because then I have tasted better than angels bread!
Never did angels taste above / redeeming grace and dying love. So let me give you praise
from this desert, because you have supplied all my needs according to your riches
in glory (Phil. 4:19). Fill me now with faith for Jesus sake. Amen.

GIVE GOD THE FIRST PART OF EVERY DAY. The first commitment is
to a daily quiet time with God. Our weekly Prayer Diary provides a template for daily
devotions.

TITHEWORK

1 Cor 16:2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God
hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.
GIVE GOD THE FIRST DIME OF EVERY DOLLARno questions
asked. Ten percent is a miniscule amount in our affluent society, but it must come
off the top in order to show that God is our priority. We want the blessing of the
firstfruits (first devotion, first dime and first day) to flow out to the rest of our
resources.
3)

TEAMWORD

Heb 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is;
but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
GIVE GOD THE FIRST DAY OF EVERY WEEK. You should fellowship
with a group of believers around the word of God every Sunday in our church.

QUALITY CHRISTIANITY INVOLVES THREE THINGS

Keeping Christ at the center (your core relationship of worship to God)

Keeping the body of Christ a priority (your congregational relationship of
walking with us)
Basing beliefs and actions on the mind of Christ (your church relationship in
the Word)

MINISTRY & SERVICE OPPORTUNITY

2017 Prayer Diary Challenge Start using the Prayer Diary each morning as
your springboard for devotions. Sit down and do what? Read thru your Bible,
10 pages a day! Stop each day on the page that has a 0 (10, 20, 30...).
Consider BEING a gift by GIVING a gift and support a Zambia child for a
year at $28 a month, or only $336 for the entire year!

Baptists tend to ridicule liturgical churches that use "prepared prayers" because
they lack spontaneity. But for many Baptists, their prayers are so predictable they are
no more spontaneous than written-out prayers. The result is we end up praying the
same things over and over.
This daily Prayer Diary will prompt you on a wide range of prayer requests you
might not normally think of, while forcing you to articulate a deeper devotion to
God. We have included a daily Bible reading schedule. This plan will take you
through the Bible chronologically in a year.
Do not read ahead and do not try to catch up. Use each day as it comes. Then
you can know that on any given day, dozens of other people are lifting their hearts in
the same mind to God. Pray what is written, but use what is prayed as a springboard
for your own relationship with God. You learn to pray by praying.
Alan

Secret prayer is the secret of prayer, the soul of prayer, the seal of prayer, the
strength of prayer. If you do not pray alone you do not pray at all. Our Lord Jesus
Christ would go nowhere till He had prayed. He would attempt nothing till He had
prayed.
Oh, says one, I live in the spirit of prayer, and therefore I do not need times
and seasons for prayer. And do you think that Christ did not live in the spirit of
prayer? Yet He had to have his special time and place to pray. Do not fall under the
injurious notion that because your spirit cries to God in prayer all day long, therefore
there must not be some season for more immediately coming into Gods presence. If
you imagine this, I am afraid that it will prove a snare to your feet. The Lord Jesus
Christ, who knew better than you do that the main thing is the spirit of prayer rather
than the act of prayer, yet Himself retired into desert places to maintain the act and
exercise of prayer. Be spiritual. Be baptized into the spirit of prayer. But do not be
deceived by the enemy, who can steal a spirit away while we dream that we only
spiritualize it. We had better preserve the very bones of prayerthe posture, the
time, placerather than let it all ooze away into an impalpable mental condition.
God keep us prayerful. He will do so if He makes us like His dear Son.
Charles H. Spurgeon, 1834-92
