Summer 2017 MCH Internship Description

Program Description:
OCHS/EHS provides high quality education services, health, mental health and
developmental assessments, services and referrals, and family engagement
activities to over 240 children and families across Orange County, North Carolina.
Our program mission is to engage and strengthen families to prepare children for
school and life.
Intern Description:
Orange County Head Start/Early Head Start (OCHS/EHS) is seeking a Maternal &
Child Health intern during the summer of 2017.
The intern will be supervised by the Family & Community Engagement Coordinator
and will assist in developing and implementing health programming, assessing
program-wide data and providing support as needed to OCHS/EHS staff. Tasks and
activities may include:

Collect survey data on family experiences in Head Start and Early Head Start
classrooms
Develop and implement summer health/physical activity events for families
Develop and implement wellness activities for OCHS/EHS staff
Analyze 2016-2017 OCHS/EHS program data and make recommendations to
program planning team based on strengths and areas of growth
Attend community meetings to advocate for children ages 0-5 and pregnant
women in Orange County
Assist staff in program improvement efforts, including playground
improvement

All tasks are subject to change based on interns interests as well as organizational
needs.
Desired experience:

Bilingual (English/Spanish) applicant preferred, but not required.

Interest in early childhood development and early intervention.
Data analysis and evaluation skills desired.
Experience working with low-income families in education or community
setting.
Energetic, flexible and creative individual desired.
