Biopolar Disorder
Background information: Bipolar disorder is a brain disorder. The patients will have two moods

which are Manic and Depression. The mood will range from up which they will be extremely
energetic to down. The cause of Bipolar disorder is unclear. Most of the scientists agreement
suggest there are more than one factor that will contribute to the illness. At first scientist have a idea
that gene are the cause of the illness. However, the study of identical twin make us know, gene are
not always the cause. Identical twin means both of them share one hundred percent same gene but if
one of the twin have the disease, the other sometimes does not develop it. Identical twin have a
greater chance for sharing the illness than Fraternal twin because fraternal means they share only
half of the genes. For identical twin the average is about 65 percent and for the fraternal twin is
around 5 to 20 percent. This show that there are some other factor than gene which will cause
Bipolar. We called it epigenetic. But some of the genes are more likely to cause the disorder than
other. The genes that associate to this illness is CACNA1C. For the CACNA1C gene, its encoding a
subunit of the L-type voltage-gated calcium channel. From the study, the change in CACNA1C
because of the DNA methylation will lead to the cluster of non-coding single-nucleotide
polymorphisms(SNPs) in intron 3. However, the CACNA1C DNA methylation had not been
addressed. The risk of the illness comes from many other factors included inheritance, brain
structure, and environmental influence. For the study of inheritance, it shows that the patients are
more likely to have this illness if their parents or sibling have one. Brain structure is another factor.
From the study, it shows that the patients will have different structure of brain compare to normal
people. For the environmental influence, patients who abuse drug will developed the symptom
earlier than other. Moreover, different people have different life experience. Stressful in life will
change the wake cycle of the patient which will cause their mood to be manic or depression. Also,
attitude and family relationship can contribute to the symptom.

Question: Can Meditation and Music therapy will improve the Bipolar disorder patient mood?
Hypothesis: If the patient of Bipolar disorder have a mediation and music therapy, then the patient
attitude and mood will be better.
Experiment:
Control Group: The Bipolar disorder patient that does not have Meditation and Music therapy.
Variable group: The Bipolar disorder patient that have Meditation and Music therapy.
Independent variable: Meditation and Music Therapy.
Dependent variable: The change in mood of the patient.
Material:
50 bipolar disorder patient(the age around 15 to 30 years old)
A survey for the patient after the therapy.
Music player
Slow song cd
Silent place for meditate
Methods:
1. Doing the survey question for the bipolar disorder patient that come to have a therapy.
2. Finding the place that is silent and not busy.
3. Buying a music player.
4. Finding the bipolar disorder patient for the age around 15 to 30 years old for about 50 people.
5. Take the patient to the place that have prepare.
6. Let the patients sit and prepare for the meditation.
7. Put the slow music cd inside the music player and open it.
8. Let the patient meditate for about 1 hour.
9. After 1 hour, close the song.

Implication: This experiment will both benefit to the doctor and the patient family. These
information will lead the patient to use meditation and music therapy as one of their choice to cure
and improve their mood. The doctors might use this information and developing the new solution
for the disorder and sometime the doctor might even create the news type of medicine to prevent
this illness.
