Explain in detail what it
is, its uses and
limitations.

It is a file for images. The reason for it is it makes computer files


smaller than uncompressed photos which can be huge. It can
reduce up to 90%. It only works for images as they dont
compress non images very well.

is, its uses and limitations.

Stands for Graphic Interchange Format,


which is a image on a web page that can
move. A GIF can loop or show a few
sequences and stop. They are often used in
ad banners.

3. What is a PNG? Explain in detail


what it is, its uses and limitations.

Stands for Portable Network Graphics, it had more


improvements over GIFS. It includes these
features: You can control the degree in
transparency, interlacing of an image is faster and
more developed, and gamma correction which
allows you to control the brightness of an image. It
does not support animation like a GIF because it
cant contain multiple images at once.

A font is displayable or printable text characters


in a specific size or style. It make include a
different point size, color, design, typeface, or
weight. You can download them off the internet
and use them on PowerPoint, or almost any
word document. Its a different and unique way

to write and make it look less boring.

5. What is DPI? PPI? Why are these important


in graphic design?

DPI means dots per inch and PPI means


pixels per inch and they both describe the
resolution or clarity of a image. PPI is the
amount of pixels per inch in an image, it
affects the print size of a photo and the
quality. DPI refers to the printer, it creates
all the tiny dots that make pixels. Higher
the DPI, the better quality of the image.

For print? Why the
difference?

For web the standard DPI is 72 dpi and for print it is 300 dpi and
the reason for the difference is because you cant print an
image off of the web and expect it to be the same quality so it
has to be a higher dpi for higher quality.

Vector images?

The difference is raster images is


pixels of various colors which form an
image ( gifs, jpeg) and vector images
are composed of paths or lines.

RGB is the usual color model used on electronic devices


which should be used if designing anything that is viewed
electronically. CMYK is the primary color model used by
color printers. Any printed media ( posters, flyers, etc)
signs should be printed in CMYK to stay true to the color
as possible.

Proof means the final product sort of, there is 2 kinds of


formats. A hard proof is a hard copy of what the final
project looks like. A soft proof is an on-screen proof.
Proofing is an important part of the printing process, its
the final check to make sure everything is on point.

lines, it creates a guide to help frame images to
make them align properly.

Aspect ratio describes the relationship between the width and


height of an image. Theres 2 types; 3:2 aspect ratio which is used
by format cameras, mirror less cameras, etc. The second is 4:3
aspect ratio which is used by many compact cameras and some
digital. The importance of this is awareness of characteristics of the
aspect ratio of your particular camera can help you compose better
images and also helps you recognize when cropping to a different
aspect ratio will help improve your image.
