Course Objectives: At the end of the semester, the student must be able to:
1.1 Properly restore Class I, II & V cavities with amalgam using the
appropriate instruments and following the correct procedures.
1.2 Properly restore Class I, II, III, IV & V cavities with composite using the
appropriate instruments and following the correct procedures.
1.3 Design and prepare a complex amalgam tooth preparation to receive an
amalgam onlay in a natural tooth or typodont.
1.4 Correctly manipulate and place the materials necessary for pulp
protection under an amalgam onlay.
1.5 Properly restore the complex amalgam tooth with an amalgam onlay
following the correct procedure and using the appropriate instruments.
1.6 Prepare an acceptable Class II inlay tooth preparation in a mandibular
molar typodont and correctly carve a wax pattern directly in the prepared
cavity.
1.7 Prepare an acceptable Class II MO cavity preparation on a maxillary first
premolar and mandibular molar and properly restore them with amalgam
within a prescribed time period with no faculty supervision.

Practical Examination = 50%.

To receive a passing grade, a student must satisfactorily accomplish all lab


exercises and pass the two practical examinations. (Class II MO tooth
preparations and amalgam restorations on a maxillary premolar and
mandibular molar).

Laboratory guidelines:
1. Students working in the laboratory are required to be in complete uniform and
wear a lab gown at all times.
2. Students are likewise required to have a complete set of instruments and
materials for all laboratory sessions. Borrowing and lending of instruments
are discouraged.
3. Questions and inquiries should be directed at the faculty. Looking at a
classmates work is prohibited unless permitted by the faculty.
4. Students are expected to read or review on the laboratory exercise scheduled
for that session before coming to class.
5. One simulator will be assigned to each student per group for the entire
duration of the course. The student will be responsible for his/her assigned
simulator. The simulator must always be kept clean and in good working
condition.
6. Personal cleanliness and cleanliness of working area and instruments are a
must in this course.
