Students will receive a post-it note when they enter the classroom. Students will
respond to the prompt on the board Why do people have jobs? Then students
will share their responses with the class to start a discussion.

Being a migrant farm worker is difficult. For hundreds of


years, people have migrated to follow the crops during the
different growing seasons. You have been asked to join an
inquiry team to examine the migrant farmers. These migrant
farmers are found in Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi,
Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky,
Arkansas, and Louisiana.
Your goal is this inquiry is to determine why migrant farmers
are having so many health problems. In this strategy you
collect data by asking yes or no questions to your teacher.
The data you collect should be used to test and refine your
hypothesis until you have reached a conclusion and have

evidence in the appropriate section to support it
