ChE 381A: Process Control (3-0-2-0)

Objective of the Course: The course prepares the student to handle elementary problems
in chemical process dynamics and control

Course Contents (Total Lectures = 40): Introduction to process dynamics and control,
motivation(1), Mathematical modeling of process systems(2), Derivation of models for
some simple processes(3), Laplace transforms(4), Transfer functions, their interpretation
and response to standard inputs(3), Dynamic response of first and second order
systems(3), Inverse response systems(1), Frequency response analysis(1), Block diagram,
open and closed loop transfer functions(2), P, PI and PID controllers(2), Stability of
feedback controllers(2), Feedback controller tuning and design(5), Cascade and
feedforward control(2), Time-delay systems(2), MIMO and state-space representation(4),
RGA for multi-variable pairing(3).
