WHY I LIKE DR. HUR JUN

A hero is someone who is selfless, who is generous, who just tries to give back as much as
possible and help people. A hero to me is someone who saves people and who really deeply
cares

Dr. Hur Jun was a person who has inspired many and still continues to do so. He was a
total selfless man who cared about the people who needed his help. He selflessly devoted himself
to heal the sick. He was a doctor who has always inspired me to help the people in need. Each
and every episode of the serial based on him tells about the problems in the world and how he
single handedly could help so many to better the situation and solve their problems.
I believe spiritually in the lines said by Debi Mazar so in my eyes, I consider Dr. Hur Jun
as a real hero. He was selfless, magnanimous and tried to help the people as much as he could.
He considered himself fortunate to know medical and therefore wanted to share it by using it for
the betterment of the people around.
Even after facing eternal social barriers - as he was an illegitimate son his mother was
from an untouchable caste and nobleman - he never stopped but struggled against them to
become the emperors physician. This incident tells that by persevering and having the will to do
work and to succeed, nothing can stop us from reaching new heights and finally succeeding in
life. The lessons given by him for everyone are the life skills which will be helpful throughout
my life.

I believe everyone should do some selfless service for the people who are in need. We
should consider the whole picture and not just our little selves. There is huge world beyond us in
which many are not as fortunate as we are.
His life achievements dont end here. He has compiled a book called Dongui Bogam,
which literally translate to mirror of the eastern medicine, published in 1613- which not to be
forgotten, became the Bible of medicine in Republic of Korea and is also listed on UNESCOs
memory of the World Program in July 2009. This book is one of the most widely read medical
books even in the year 2014, and he had written it as early as in 1613.
His work in East Asian countries like China, Japan, and Vietnam is still regarded as one
of the classics of Oriental medicine today. Although Hur Jun worked extensively with the royal
family, he put a great emphasis on making treatment methods accessible and comprehensible to
common people. I believe his vision that all people, irrespective of their economic status will get
the treatment will someday become true. He has inspired me also to help at least one needy when

I have so much to lend. To conclude I would only hope to become like him- to make this world a
better place to live in.
