Lesson Title: Unique Robots
Grade Level: K-4

Learning Objective:
K-4 - I can define what it means to be unique and accept people and things
that are different

Materials Needed:
Paper - pre-cut to create a robot, markers, glue

Formative Assessment (acceptable evidence):


Students will provide evidence of understanding what it means to be unique.
Students will also accept the differences of others and be okay with
change.

Lesson Preparation:
Essential Questions:
K-4 What does the word unique mean?
Engagement/Hook:
Students will discuss the word unique and will listen as the counselor
discusses various things about her that make her unique.

Instructional Procedures:
Counselor(s):
1. Counselor will ask students to define the word unique.
2. Counselor will provide examples of how she is unique and will encourage
students to do the same.
3. Counselor will explain to students that they will be creating a robot today.
She will give instructions on how they will create their robot ("I will give you
the pieces to your robot for you to decorate and when you are done
decorating them you will lay your robot out on the table in front of you")
4. Counselor will draw a sample of the robot pieces on the board for students
to reference. She will then explain to students that they will then have to
test their ability to be okay with change by trading one of their robot pieces
with another student in the class.
5. Counselor will have students work on their robots, and when time is up
she will have them switch a piece of their robot with another students.
6. Once all students have switched counselor will explain that they will have
to keep their new robot piece and glue their new robot together. They must

be okay with their robot looking different than what they had originally
anticipated.
Students:
1. Students will provide their thoughts about what the word unique means.
2. Students will listen as the counselor provides examples of how she is
unique and then they will share different things about themselves that make
them unique.
3. Students will listen as the counselor explains the activity for the day.
4. Students will listen and watch as the counselor provides a reference for
the activity today.
5. Students will work on their robots and will lay them out on the table in
front of them when they are done.
6. Students will trade one of their robot pieces with another student in the
class and then glue their new robot together to take home.
