I am going to show how each of these authors argue how effective
homework is to students, how homework effects certain students, and how
homework feedback improves academic success.
Some Authors argue differently than others. Author
argue with ethos, pathos or logos which can be better or worse depending
on how they argue.
One article I read uses more ethos
and she does that by telling about studies that have been done by
other researchers. Another article I have read talks about studies
they have done that shows whether or not homework is effective,
which is an appeal to logos. Pathos was used in another article I am
using which is an appeal to emotion. Generally logos is the best
way to go when arguing with someone because it can show proof
of a theory.
Research has also
found positive relations between homework and students
study habits as well as the development of selfregulation,(Kristoffersson 1).
I
brought this up to prove my point about how people
We now stand at an
interesting crossroads in the homework debate, (Costley
2).
This
one had a weak argument, but I used it to show that
pathos doesnt provide much of an argument. When
they say they are at an interesting crossroads in the
homework debate shows me that they need to do
more studying on the pros or cons on homework.
Homework is often a
contentious issue for students, parent, and teacher. When
utilized properly, homework can be a valuable tool for
reinforcing learning that takes place in the classroom.
Unfortunately, many teachers do not use homework
effectively, (Carr 169).
I
noticed this as a pathos argument again, which is a
very common way of argument. I used this because
it mentioned how students, teachers, and parents
feel it is an issue. When they mention that
homework is an issue for students, parents, and
teachers, it means that it is something that causes
problems for them in their life. What they want to
do is make homework more beneficial for students,
parents, and teachers.
