The Baliuag University Junior Philippine Association of Management Accountants

(BUJPAMA) conducted a seminar entitled Management Accounting Students, Level-Up for the
Future. The said event happened on September 26, 2016 at Baliuag University CAS Building
occupying the Rooms 401-403. The students who have attended were consists of 3 rd year and 4th
year. The aim of this what we called seminar is to open the mind of students and waking them up
to the opportunities that waiting. It is not right to degrade ourselves just because of the title we
have, dont ever just say Management Accounting/MA lang. We are all aware that Accountancy
is really higher than what we have, BUT its not enough for us to give up and look down as if it
is the end of our journey. We maybe failed to achieve our goal to be a CPA but always look at the
brighter side. We do still have the chance to pursue it and make things possible after we
experience the darkest side of being a student. Stand up and be strong enough on this time!
The program started at exactly 9:15 in the morning which hosted by Aica Sato and Krizel
Rivera from the 3rd year. Of course, a solemn prayer was the first thing happened followed by the
singing of the National Anthem and the Himno ng PamantasangBaliuag. The opening remarks
was communicated by our CBAA Secretary, Dr. Rolando Calma, giving thanks to the officers,
guest, and students for the momentous event conducted. After that, the hosts asked questions to
the students regarding their expectations to the seminar. Subsequently, Hasan Osman (Exec. VP
of BUJPAMA) introduced Mr. Henry Ong as the first speaker. Then, John Alper Paez (VP of
External Communication) introduced Mr. Angel Secerio Jr. followed by Ms. Maica Lopez and
Mr. Harvey Christian Sumagaysay. After their minutes of informative messages and inspiring
experiences they shared, the students has given the chance to ask variety of questions from them.
Expectedly, the open forum arrived well and we are all satisfied by Mr. Secerios answers. After

that, Mrs. Elenita Maglaque, the BUJPAMA Adviser gave the closing remark. She mentioned the
insights of many of us regarding the degrading matter of MA students into themselves and also
gave thanks to the people behind the event. The closing of the occasion was made through the
awarding of certificates to the respected guest speakers who gladly accepted our invitation.
Mr. Henry Ong introduced the Accounting Technician, which is based from him, it is a
profession that can do more than bookkeeping and knows how to make payroll and taxation, too.
He also mentioned that in the other country, there are many accounting professionals that do not
really finish a degree in Accountancy or not a CPA either, but been performing or working the
same as accountants does. The Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) is globally recognized,
like the counties UK, Singapore, Hongkong, etc. The certification builds an individuals selfimage and gain competitive edge in todays economy because it help employers choose you..
Mr. Angel Secerio Jr. introduced the Certified Management Accountant (CMA and shared his
experience working abroad. He bears the difficulty finding a job even though a CPA in our
homeland. But after several years, he submitted an online application and passed. But due to his
local CPA title, they prefer the Australian man for a higher position although not as bright as him.
But then, he worked as Financial Accountant in a large construction company earning
P120,000 /mo. tax free. But he wants more, so he took up the CMA which changes his life. After
passing, his salary became P204,000 tax free. He jokingly said at the end of his remarks, Hindi
nga kayo nakakuha ng CPA title, local lang yan! Meron namang CMA title, imported!
After the two respected professional guest speakers, two of the inspiring persons shared their
experience too. They are Ms. Maica Lopez and Mr. Harvey Christian Sumagaysay. According to
Ms. Maica, you really need to exert so much effort and proper time management for you to be
able to accomplish your goal. She also mentioned that during his review, she even sacrifices the

important occasions with her family just to study and study. So, because of her hard works and
sacrifices, she passed and everything went well. I remember what she said that, Kaya naman e,
kung gugustuhin mo lang. Mr. Harvey Sumagaysay described how he changed his attitude and
principle during his college. The same experience we had, he was also an Accountancy student
but failed too. But, he didnt give up and finished Bachelor of Science in Business
Administration major in Management Accounting. Despite of the failing grades he has, he still
manage to change his manner in studying thats why he was able to passed the first and second
level in the examination of CMA. And now, he was on her third and last level and he left us with
a saying If you want something, go get it.
