DIRECTED STORYTELLING: TURNING POINTS

Today, my life is ___________________. Today is

different than
/
the same as
(circle one) any other day of my life. When I think about my life path, there
are three moments that stand out. The three pivotal decisions I made or
moments that brought me here are :
(1)________________________________,
(2)_________________________________, and
(3)____________________________________________.
When I think about moment (1), the emotion I feel is _____________________.
This emotion makes me most aware of ___________________________ [the
area of your body that feels this emotion the mosT]. The sensation of this
emotion feels like ____________________________________. The first time I
felt this sensation, I was _______ years old. The cause of this emotion and
sensation was _______________________________. Most people in my life

know this story

/
dont know this story
(choose one).
**** Sidebar (Objectivity Checkpoint): If you selected that most people in your life
know this story, do you tend to retell this narrative frequently? What type of
reaction do you typically receive from telling this story? Sympathy? Hugs?
Congratulations? Praise? Sometimes we latch onto certain narratives for the
reaction they elicit in a social setting. Take a moment to decide if this story has
BECOME you. If this rings true, write down the emotional response you feel when
you tell this story: ___________________________.

If no one close to you knows this story, do you know why? Certain life narratives
have the power to define us if we let them. Perhaps the turning point was one of
triumph. Sometimes we decide to shy away from these positive defining moments
because they might set the bar higher for us to aspire to greatness. Or maybe you
feel ashamed of your narrative and hide it from the world around you. If this is the
case, I challenge you to share it with one person today. We will be working on
distancing ourselves from these narratives and frequently to do so you have to
GET IT OUT!

The moment (2) happened, I was _______ years old. The two most important
influences in my life at the time were ___________________ and
__________________. Thinking about (2) makes me feel
__________________. I feel this emotion most in my _____________________
[area of my body]. The sensation of this emotion feels like

was _______________________________. Most people in my life k
now this

story
/
dont know this story
[circle one]. Is this emotion and sensation the
same as (1)? If so, please refer to the sidebar below. If it is different, please
proceed to (3).

**** Sidebar: Humans tend to create similar narratives throughout the course of
their lives. The body becomes chemically addicted to the neurotransmitters
produced during an emotion and begins to crave it. We will be working on
evaluating our 3 most prominent emotional addictions later in the course. We will
learn to rewire the emotional responses attached to these addictions to break
ourselves free.

important. Our

our self-assessment and the assessments of those who love and hate us the
most. [ Your team leader will walk you through the Objective Personality
Triangle Exercise now ] As you dig deeper in this work, youll begin to get
more comfortable with your behaviors or experiences being starkly
contrasted to the objective reality youll begin to see shape up. That doesnt
