KVPY-2015 RESULTS

DPS Vasant Kunj Students become Fellows of Prestigious KVPY-2015 The following
seven students of DPS Vasant Kunj have become fellows of the prestigious Kishore
Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY-2015), funded by the department of Science and
Technology, Government Of India. Competing thousands of students all over the
country, they proved their mettle by qualifying both the levels of Exam cum interview.

PASCH scholarship
Mihika Dutta of class IX and Krithik Ranjan of class X have been awarded the
PASCH scholarship for a German Language Course for young students as part of an
International Youth Camp at St. Peter Ording, Germany from 29th May to 18th June
2016.

Saumya Malhotra

The DPS Vasant Kunj flag is flying high yet again, this time at an international platform,
in the sphere of sustainability. Saumya Malhotra of class 11 I has made it to the global
top 10 finalists of the essay writing contest organised by the Trust for Sustainable Living,
UK, and its NGO, The Living Rainforest, for her articulate, expressive and significant
essay on Are Sustainable Cities Possible?. She has been invited, along with a Teacher
Champion (her mentor) for an educational visit to Dubai, where she will be awarded
either a trophy or a medal, will visit Dubais Eco City, and will have the opportunity to
participate in an international debate on the subject of sustainable cities.
While Saumya has done well in several prestigious competitions and olympiads in the
spheres of Science, Commerce and Mathematics and is also a Vice-Head Girl of the
school, she has done equally well in the niche of national and international writing
competitionsespecially those that centre around the themes of social relevance, such as:
1. Runner Up at the NanhiChhaan National Schools Essay Competition in
2015:For her 1000-word essays titled Gender equality is the Only Way Forward
and Sustain the Environment to Sustain Life. At the 2-day National Finals held
at the Vasant Valley School, New Delhi, she also made an impact as she
presented her views on the highly topical subject of gender equality in a panel
discussion. She received a trophy, a Firefox bicycle, an all-expenses-paid trip to
the NIIT Neemrana Campus, and a cash prize of Rs. 150, 000, which was
distributed equally among Saumya, the school, and an NGO of Saumyas choice,
the Centre for Social Security Action and Research.
2. Gold Award at the 2015 Queens Commonwealth Essay Writing competition
(international): For her essay on Fresh Perspectives: What a Young
Commonwealth Can Do.
3. First Prize in the National Online Essay Writing Competition by SIV-G, in
collaboration with SVPMT (National, open to College and School students):
Organised by SIV-G (Self-Imposed Vigilance for Good Governance), in
collaboration with the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Memorial Trust, Chennai, for her
essay on Integrity in Public Life Sardar Patels Mantra. Received Rs.5000 by
cheque.
4. Second Prizein the Wordsmith Challenge (regional): Organised by the US
Department of State and hosted by the United States-India Educational
Foundation (USIEF) in association with the Fulbright Scholarship Program as
part of the International Education Week, for her essay on the benefits of
International education and studying abroad.
5. Won the Ashoka University Essay Challenge (regional): For her essay on
social media, and was awarded Amazon gift vouchers worth Rs.10000. Was
invited to and attended a writing workshop by the universitys Centre for Writing
and Communication, and a lecture by Associate Professor of Philosophy, Kranti
Saran (Ph.D., Harvard).
Saumya is also an active contributor and member of the editorial committee of the school
magazine, and writes for the official blog of the schools Consumer Care Council and is
championing the anti-bullying initiative for the school.

SGFI BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

Nishita Sabarwal of Class XI of our school represented Delhi State in the School
National Games organized by SGFI held at Delhi from 02nd Jan to 07th Jan 2016. She
was appointed the Captain of the Delhi State team and the team won the Gold Medal in
the above mentioned national games.
ALL INDIA INTER-DPS FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT
All India interDPS National Football Tournament was organized at DPS Vasant Kunj
from 18th to 20th Dec 2015. A total of 19 teams from all over India participated in the
tournament. The tournament was played on league cum knock out basis. The teams were
divided into four pools and top team from each pool qualified for the semifinals.
1st semifinal was played between DPS Vasant Kunj and DPS RK Puram and the score
was 60 in favour of DPS Vasant Kunj. 2nd Semifinal was played between DPS Gurgaon
and DPS Panipat City and DPS Gurgaon won by 10.
In the final, DPS Vasant Kunj emerged winner by defeating DPS Gurgaon 62. DPS
Panipat City stood 3rd in the tournament. Roshan Singh Chauhan of DPS Vasant Kunj
was top scorer and adjudged best player of the tournament.

ALL INDIA INTER-DPS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT


Our School Girls Basketball team Participated in All-India Inter-DPS Basketball
tournament held at DPS Faridabad from 11 to 13 December 2015. A total of 13 teams
participated, from all over India. Our School team emerged as the Champions and
Nishita Sabarwal was adjudged the Best shooter of this tournament.

Inter-School Maths Competition


DPS Dwarka organised AXIOM 2015, an Inter School Maths competition on 6th
November 2015. The Result of the different events are as follows :
In Math-O-ART-an event to make a design using Mathematical/Geometrical
shapes,
N. Sriya class (VIII) secured the first position.
In Maths Quiz, Shreyaansh Gupta and Tosshaan Thapar ( XII) secured the
second position.
In Logic Analyse our school secured the second position.
Our school also bagged the overall second position.

Result of 31st Manav Sthali All India Inter School Maths Talent Test 2015.

The Mathematical Crusade


The Mathematical Society of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram organsised The
Mathematical Crusade, 2015 as Inter-School Mathematics symposium, on 14th
December 2015. Several competitions were organised for classes VIII to XII. In Quiz,
Shreyaansh Gupta and Aditya Garg of class XII of DPS Vasant Kunj and secured second
position in the final round.

ANOTHER FEATHER IN OUR CAP


USIEF Essay Competition
The school participated in the celebration of the International Education Week, Nov
16-20, 2015, a joint initiative by the US Department of State and the US Department of
Education to promote programmes that attract future leaders from all over the world to
study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States.
As part of the celebrations, Education USA at the United States-India Educational
Foundation (USIEF) in Connaught Place, organised an On-the-spot Essay Writing
Competition on the theme of International Education- the Wordsmith Challenge, for
students of Classes 10 through 12.
Ramya Mishra (11 J) and Saumya Malhotra (11 I) were selected to represent the school
at this prestigious event. Saumya Malhotra bagged the Second place for her essay on the
benefits of studying abroad, and earned a certificate from the United States Department
of State and Education USA.

SECOND NANHI CHHAAN NATIONAL SCHOOL ESSAY CONTEST 2015


Saumya Malhotra, Class XI, DPS Vasant Kunj emerged as the Runner-up in the
prestigious Second Nanhi Chhaan National School Essay Contest 2015. The final
round, which also included an invigorating panel discussion on the theme of the
contest- Gender Equality is the Only Way Forward- was held on 29 September,
2015 in Vasant Valley School. She and Ramya Mishra, Class XI, and the winner of the
First Nanhi Chhaan National School Essay Contest 2014, were the 14 finalists, from
amongst more than 2000 competitors, from 14 0 schools, all over India. Saumya was
awarded a trophy, a certificate, a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 and a bicycle for her
marvellous performance. Ramya also received a certificate and an i- pad mini for
her notable effort.

MUSIC
Our school band, IRUS, participated in 'Crescendo', and Inter-School Western Music
Competition held at Amity International School, MayurVihar, on 24th July. Aditi
Malhotra accompanied by Aniket Jain and Pragya Yadav bagged the First position in the
Solo category. Arundhati Bhattacharya, AasthaMohapatra, Arushi Malhotra,
VedaaNaik, Akanksha Srivastava, Pragya Yadav, Aditi Malhotra, TsheringWangmu,
Arenla, Prishita won the second position in the Group category. The participants for the
Band category were Aditi Malhotra, Aniket Jain, Pragya Yadav, VikramBaruah, Sanchit
Bajaj and AyushSikdar who secured the Third position in the same.
IRUS participated in 'Cloudburst' at BiraVidyaNiketan, PushpVihar on 28th July and
bagged the First position in the Band category. The participants were Ishana Arya,
Aniket Jain, Sanchit Bajaj, Pragya Yadav, VikramBaruah and AyushSikdar.
IRUS also participated in Sarang 2015, organised by Sanskriti School on 1st August. In
the Solo category, Ishana Arya accompanied by Aniket Jain and Pragya Yadav won the
Second prize . In the Band category, Aditi Malhotra won the Best Vocalist award. In the

Indian Music segment, the school won the Third prize in the Group category. The
participants were Nityashree Arunachalam, Ocean Mishra, Saumya Sharma,
Parnika Agarwal, Saarthak Mahapatra, Udit Grover, Abdur Rahman, Tejeshwar Sandhu,
Sabar Nimmagddha and Amartya Raj.
Our school participated in the Inter-DPS Indian Music Competition at the Zonal Level at
DPS Faridabad on 15th May. Saif Ali Khan received the Third prize in the Solo
category. Our school also bagged the First position in the Group category. The
participants were Arundhati Bhattacharya, AaasthaMohapatra, VedaaNaik, Arushi
Malhotra, AnanayaChhatwal, Jigyasu Pant, Saif Ali Khan and AnanyaChaturvedi.
In the Sri SurendraNathJauharFaquir Memorial Inter-School Patriotic Song
Festival held at Mother's International School, SaubhagyaMohapatra bagged the
First position in the Solo category.
ART, MUSIC, DANCE
Students of music, dance and art participated in Goonj 2015 organised at DPS Gurgaon.
There were two categories: 'Lavanya', the Art competition in which our school won the
Third prize. The participating students were Pratham Kapoor, RichirVivek Sen,
AnanyaBaruah and Gaurav Pati. In 'Tarangini', the Music and Dance category, our
school won the First prize. The participants were Drishti Agarwal, IkshitaChandel,
NandiniChandok, Abhisri S. Bharati, PaavniNangia, MuskaanGambhir, Bhagya
Bhardwaj, Vinayak Sharma, Arushi Malhotra, AasthaMohapatra, AnanyaChhatwal,
Arundhati Bhattacharya, Jigyasu Pant, Amartya Raj Singh, SaarthakMahapatra,
GunitaTandon, VikramBaruah and PrahaldVerma. Our school also won the overall
trophies.
DANCE
Our school participated in the Inter-DPS Zonal Dance Competition held at DPS
Indirapuram on 8th August
2015. We bagged the Third position and the 'Best Choreographer' award. The
participants
were PaavniNangia, Spriha Choudhry, Aditi Beniwal, Amisha Agarwal, AnanyaSuman,
Jannat Chawla,
Sukanya Arora, AbhavyaJha and Nia Popli.
SCIENCE
Our school bagged the First position at Ciencia 2015, an Inter-School Science Fest,
held at DPS Greater Noida on 11th August. The students who brought glory to the
school were Ashmika, Riya Singhal, Arushee Agarwal, Vani Goel, SamridhiRastogi,
Tanish Sharma, AyanSabhri, TavishiYeptho, SaloniTripathi, RhiyaNanaiah and
Nandini Jain.
SpringdalesDhaulaKuan organised Dr. A. K. Saha Young Scientists Experimental
Project - An Annual InterSchool event on 10th August 2015. The theme of the contest
was "In search of Human Society - The Role of Science". SaumyaPareek and
Siladityaa Sharma of Class XI bagged the Third position for their model on Integrated
Agricultural Management.
HINDI
SukritiAseeja was awarded the First prize in the Hindi Poetry Recitation Competition
held as part of the Inter-School Literary Fest, 'Srijan' at Modern School, Vasant Vihar
on 28th July 2015.

Thousand Splendid Suns- 9 Dec-2015


Our school participated in the Thousand Splendid Suns, the coveted annual English
Festival organized by DPS International under the aegis of DPSS on 9 December 2015.
Our students came out with flying colours and bagged three prizes.

The students who made the school proud were Tanvi Maan and Prisha Kandhari of Class
VI. Our school also participated in Art Poetica, the Dr. Prem Kirpal Inter-School Art and
Poetry Competition on 11 December, 2015. Our students won the Second Runners Up
Prize in the event Blend Art. The participants were Resham Khanna, Punya, Tarushi
Gupta and Vedant Khandelwal.
