A youth speakers series

What is GIMME 5?
Our world needs great leaders and what a better place to start supporting and encouraging our youth to
become great leaders than in our home community of West Vancouver! GIMME 5 is a youth speakers
series that provides opportunities for young people in grades 6 9 to showcase their public speaking and
leadership skills through short presentations on a topic that they are passionate about.
Youth selected for GIMME 5 will learn the essentials of communication, principles of good collaboration,
foundations of public speaking, and the concept of community and its importance. The youth selected for
GIMME 5 will be matched with older youth from the Youth Advisory Committee, acting as their advisors,
and together in a supportive learn-by-doing environment they will create effective and engaging
presentations, give and receive feedback, and ultimately emerge as a young leaders in West Vancouver.

Important information
In addition to a commitment of researching and practicing your presentation at home, in order to be
considered for GIMME 5, you must:
Currently be in grade 6 9
Be available for the following dates:
o Prep camp: March 4 & 5, 2017 | 10 a.m. 3 p.m. *
o Dress rehearsal: April 7, 2017 | 4 6 p.m.
o Dress rehearsal: April 28, 2017 | 4 6 p.m.
o Presentation #1: April 29, 2017 | 10 a.m. 3 p.m. **
o Presentation #2: May 1 or 8, 2017 | 6:30 8 p.m. **
* Extra support (optional): March 20 24 | 1 4 p.m.
** Exact time of presentation to be determined closer to the dates
