News_Technical Updates_ AtEx enclosure solutions

Basic requirement for quality is to offer product solutions meeting the needs of resistance, safety
and functionality required by the market; a second element that makes the difference is to enrich
the technical features with an added value and a service.
Wired switchboards are:
- Low-voltage switchgear assemblies -> they need to comply with
the Standard CEI EN 61439-1
- Electrical equipment -> they need to comply with the standard CEI
EN 60204-1
- Empty enclosures for switchgear assemblies -> they need to comply
with CEI EN 62208
Thanks to the huge investments in R&D and to the E.T.A. Quality
System, the safety of our products solutions is guaranteed through
proper certifications according to the industry directives and
standards, and approval by certified institutes.
Further to the mandatory tests for enclosures manufacturers
specified in the above-mentioned directives, we provide our support
to the end-users by performing some of the tests which are
mandatory for panel builders, installers, electrical wiring
companies. Our objective is to provide a service and an added value
to our customers, which translates into a big SAVING in time/cost for end-user.
The European Directive 94/9/CE both concerns the equipments and the protection systems used in
the atmospheres that are potentially explosive (ATEx) due to inflammable substances such as gas,
steam, fume or dust, and aims at granting the free circulation of these products into the EU
Countries.
Enclosures for Explosive Atmospheres (ATEx) need to be manufactured according to specific technical
features: the wide range of STX and STX-EEX boxes perfectly complies with the standards of the
Directive and meets the market needs for constructional safety (STX) and intrinsic and increased
safety applications (STX-EEX) for chemical, petrochemical, food industry, off-shore and for all the
potentially explosive atmospheres.
Here below a list of the certifications available for STX-EEX boxes:
1) Quality system certification for the processes linked to AtEx
solutions:
- UNI EN 13980, related to the AtEx quality management system
(yearly inspection). Certification Potentially explosive atmospheres:

- ISO9001, related to the processing of the stainless steel from raw
material to finished product

heat resistance (hot temperature) according to 26.8 EN 60079-0;
heat resistance (cold temperature) according to 26.9 EN 60079-0;
IP66 according to EN 60529;
temperature class according to 26.5 EN 60079-0.

For the Group II (industry) category 2GD (gas + dust) zones 1, 2, 21, 22 the procedure has been the
following:

So, STX-EEX boxes are electrical

enclosures complete with all the
requirements needed by the end
user.
According to the standards EN600790;7 and EN61241-0;1, STX-EEX boxes
are available in 20 dimensions with
single door in both AISI304L or
AISI316L sheet steel. They are
electrical enclosures classified for
category II and zones 1, 2 , 21, 22
for gas and dust (2GD) with
protection method EX e, ia.
The protection method EEx e is based
on the idea of prevention: to comply
with that, the directive establishes
high structural level and restrictive technical features of components and equipment, and strict
periodical tests of the manufacturing processes of products certified UNI EN13980 e ISO9001.
Moreover, according to the above-mentioned European Directive, the existing
electrical systems (built according to the previous version dated 2003) need to be
updated according to the new standard for the risk assessment in explosive
atmospheres. So, your electrical systems need to be updated.
If you already installed an E.T.A. box manufactured from stainless steel (STX),
you can comply with the new directive with NO need to replace the whole
enclosure: a special bracket AtEx compatible with STX boxes provided with antirotation and captive external stud is available. This accessory would allow you to
modify the system both complying with the directive and optimizing your time
and management costs.
