CAREER & TECHNICAL EDUCATION

PROGRAM GUIDE

2016

www.ccsf.edu/cte

Message from
the Office of Career and Technical Education
Thank you for your interest in City College of San Francisco (CCSF). Our career and
technical education (CTE) programs are continuously improving to meet the needs
of our students and community. Enrolling in a CTE program may be your first
step on a new career path or part of your plan to remain ahead of the changing
demands of the work place. Or, it may fulfill your plan to engage in lifelong learning
for lasting and rewarding employment. Whatever your goal, CTE provides you
the opportunity to develop specialized occupational knowledge and valuable
skills for advancement in your chosen career. We welcome your participation
in our programs and wish you success in achieving your career goals.

How to Use this Guide

This Guide lists critical information on enrollment and
participation in over 200 CTE programs available at CCSF. You
will find the following terms used to describe each program.
Program CTE programs consist of one extensive course or
a series of courses designed to prepare students for entry-level
employment in a specific field of study. CCSFs programs are
listed by category in alphabetical order.
Program Completion Awards CTE programs consist of
one extensive course or a series of courses designed to
prepare students for entry-level employment in a specific field
of study. Upon successful completion of the program, students
may earn an associate degree (A.S. or A.A.), a credit certificate
(Certificate of Achievement or Certificate of Accomplishment),
or a noncredit certificate (Certificate of Completion). Certificate
programs consist primarily of CTE courses, and are generally
12 to 30 units. Associate degree programs require 60 or more
units of coursework, including courses required for the major
and for General Education.
College Credit Many CTE programs earn college credits
(or units) that may be applied toward a college degree.
As of Spring 2016, credit courses cost $46 per unit for
California residents, $211 + $46 per unit enrollment fee for
non-residents, and $211 + $46 per unit enrollment fee for
international students and students with temporary visas.
Noncredit Students can earn special certificates and/or
diplomas by enrolling in a number of noncredit CTE programs.
Noncredit courses are tuition-free. However, students are
expected to buy books and supplies, and a few courses
require the purchase of additional materials. In many cases,
you can enroll in classes by attending the first class meeting.
You can also enroll after the start of the semester. For more
information, speak to a counselor or the course instructor.
Entry Requirements Many programs use entry tests to help
assess whether students have the language and math skills
required for successful completion of courses. Applicants who
need to improve or refresh basic skills may choose from a
variety of CCSF classes.
Program Length The estimated time needed to complete
CTE programs is based on full-time enrollment of 12 or more
units per semester. Degree programs take two or more years
to complete; certificate programs may require less time
depending on course availability.
Location CCSF has locations and facilities throughout
San Francisco. Codes used to identify the location are given
at the bottom of each left-hand page.

Phone For specific information about the program, call the

number listed.
CCSF also provides numerous services to support you in your
