district was founded in 18th century AD. The district Head quarters are located in Guntur. The boundaries of Guntur are Prakasam district to South, The River Krishna flows through North-east and East, Bay of Bengal to South-east, Nalgonda district to North-west and Mahbubnagar district to West. According to 2011 census, the district is the 2nd most in population consists of 4,889,230 and occupies an area about 11,391 sq.km. The new proposed capital of Andhra Pradesh is Amaravathi which is known as Centre of Buddhist Culture is located in Guntur district. The district lies on the Right side Bank of Krishna River. The district is also a part of Red Corridor ie, suffered from Nexalite Insurgency.
