CHAPTER III

RESEARCH DESIGN
This chapter presents the method of research used, the sources of data,
the data gathering instrument, the data gathering procedure and the statistical
treatment of data.
Methods of Research
The descriptive and survey methods will be used in conducting the
research and be able to accomplish the objective of the study. Descriptive
method of research is where the study is presented in an expressive manner to
identify a certain problem or phenomena. The descriptive research designs
enable researchers to describe or present the picture of a phenomenon or
phenomena under investigation. According to Johnson and Christensen (2012),
descriptive research focused mainly on providing an accurate description or
picture of the status or characteristics of a situation or phenomena.
The descriptive research will be used to make an assessment of the level
of administrative practices of the public higher education institution at Marikina
City towards the extent of job satisfaction of the employees which will serve as
basis for intervention program.
Sources of Data

The main sources of data are the faculty members and employees of
Public Higher Educational Institution at Marikina City. The Slovins formula was
used to identify the respondents of the study and select them through a random
sampling method where an equal number of respondents were taken from each
stratum of the recorded population. Only those faculty members and employees
with plantilla positions are considered for the study and the distribution are
presented in Table 1 hereunder.

The data on the table shows that there were 140 administrators and
faculty members taken as sample respondents from MPC out of 258 while 42 will
be taken from PLMAR out of 75 faculty and administrators.
Data Gathering Instrument
The main instrument to be used in the study is the questionnaire in a
checklist form. The questionnaire contains survey that will help make an
assessment of the level of administration practices of Public Higher Educational
Institution at Marikina City. The questionnaire have part 1 for questions on the
level of administration practices. Part 2 contains questions on extent of job
satisfaction of the employees.

The questionnaire was developed by the researcher with the help and
concurrence of her adviser. The designed questionnaire will be validated by
experts after the proposal defense. The comments, suggestions and corrections
to be provided by the validators will help in improving the contents in making the
final form of the researcher made instrument of the study.

Data Gathering Procedure

The researcher will seek permission to conduct study from College
President and endorsement through the College Administrators. The researcher
will then report to the respective heads for easy distribution and retrieval of data.
Retrieval will be done after a certain period to give ample time to the respondents
to answer the questions. The data gathered will be tabulated, statistically treated,
analyzed and interpreted to complete the study.

Statistical Treatment of Data

The data gathered will be treated using the following statistical tools:
Weighted Mean. This will be used to identify the level of administration
practices of Public Higher Educational Institution at Marikina City as assessed by
the faculty members and employees. The same formula shall be utilized to know
the extent of job satisfaction of the employees as perceived by the two groups of
respondents.
The following shows the scale to be used in interpreting the data:
