Uncanny If I utter the name Sujatha , a charming , young woman pops up in ur mind ,

Am sorry to disappoint you. If on the contrary a book or a library strikes ur mind , yes
you guessed it right.. Today the person am going to praise is that person who
introduced me to the word of books , Mr S .Rangarajan who is more popular as writer
sujatha..
In my family , everyone loves to read.. Just that my mom reads novels , books and my
dad tries to read my moms mind . Looking at the way my mom used quotations from
books while arguing with my dad , I decided to keep reading to ensure that I have an
upper hand with my future arguments.. But I was more inclined towards comics and
stories that had bright picture. Those big books with big stories and no pictures never
motivated me until I saw my mom clinging to a book so hard that she read it while
cooking , while eating and kept it down only when she finished reading it.. So with a lot
of curiosity , I started reading my first ever novel titled Stop Observe AttackNil Gavani
thaakku.. I also could nt keep it down until I finished reading it.. There is always an awe
factor in each and every piece of writing he does. In his first ever novel.. he played a lot
of gimmick.. For example.. (got down ).
One of the best short stories I have ever read was titled Paarvai , vision it gives us a
glimpse of the blinds world and their view points. A train journey, one (two?!) blind
man.and sujatha Both trying to explain the seamless thoughts of their mind to the other.
At one point, the blind man asks Sujatha, Sir, am a born blind man , I dont know what
vision is, you are a writer.. can you answer a question for me.. What is colour.. How can
you explain colour to a person who has never seen any colour.. We dont know the
colour they see.. But Sujatha as usual, stands a class apart in his narration of this story,
He says u understand music right.. colours are that for vision what sa re ga ma pa da ni
is for hearing..
During a time when Tamil composing was dominated by social/family dramas and
historical novels his work stood distinctly out. He identified himself with the masses
through uncanny adoption of their way of talking, behavior, mindset and slang. For
example , the other writers worked on making their creation look like a classic literature
and so their characters spoke pure form of tamil , Eg: The riksha driver says.. Aiya
thangal enge sella vendum Which means sir where do you want to go.. But in
Sujathas stories they speak the colocial language.. Enna sir.. Enga ponum which
looks more natural.. He dint write for awards.. he wrote for his audience..
Another outstanding attribute he owned was the psychological approach he followed
with all of his characters.. If there was a protagonist.. he talked about his childhood , his
family circumstance , the challenges he faced to say why he was able to choose the
right path.. More importantly , if there is an antagonist who behaves like a psycho , he
justifies why he behaves like a psycho.. an unfortunate early loss of love , careless
family or over indulgence in money.. This was like reading Ramayana from Ravanas
perspective and understanding that he was also correct in his own way..
At one point of time , Sujatha wrote in almost all the tamil dailies simultaneously.. He
could have made more and more money with that and be satisfied with that.. But he dint
stop there.. He was an enginlikeer by profession and found that with the onset of
computers , people need to understand technology . According to me his biggest
contribution to society was the technical articles that looked like interesting stories but
made the reader understand what nano technology or robotic . .

When a country like USA which is advanced in technology uses ballot for voting , we
Indians use electronic voting machine , all thanks to the inventor Sujatha. He designed
a simple yet tamper proof machine that has eased the election process to a great
extent.
If he wanted to , he could have lived a comfortable life with all the money he earned as
an aeronautical engineer in BHEL , or could have been happy with the money he
earned writing stories for movies and working with big people like Shankar and Kamal
hasan , but he tried his best to contribute to the society through his writing skills and
intelligence and worked towards being of some use to the society . That is the lesson he
signified by living the same. I was waiting for a moment to talk about this legend who is
an unsung hero and I am glad this manual gave me an opportunity to honour such a
mighty yet humble genius .
