which is self-explanatory.

It is reiterated that the Implementing Guidelines of the School Calendar for

School Year 2016-2017 per Enclosure No. 2 of DepED Order No. 23, s. 2016 must be strictly
followed.

1. The School Calendar f
or School Year {SYj 2O16-2O17 shows the school events
and activities for the said SY. The core events and activities for this SY, which represent
the actual teaching-learning days, shall be strictly observed in all schools.

2. The SY 2016-2017 shall begin on Monday, June 13, 2016 and shall end on
Friday, April 7, 2017. The SY will consist of 202 school days, inclusive of the five-day
In-Service Training (INSET) break. The different school events and other activities for
learners, including the regular and special non-working holidays, are contained in
Enclosure No. 1.
3.

Private schools may deviate from this School Calendar. However, they may not

start classes earlier than the first Monday of June and not later than the last day of
August, as provided for in Republic Act No. 7797 entitled An Act to Lengthen the Sdwol
Calendar from Two Hundred (200) Days to Not More Own Two Hundred Twenty (220).
Class Days. They should notify their respective regional offices (ROs) in advance
regarding any deviation.

4. Specific guidelines are found, in Enclosure 2 to enable the schools to effectively

and efficiently conduct school events and activities, and to allow the ROs and schools
division offices (SDOs) to provide support to the schools, especially in the areas of
instruction, and progress monitor
ing and evaluation.
5.

Activities and observances mandated by law can be found in Enclosure 3 while

events and activities which pertain to DepEd personnel are listed in Enclosure 4.
Schools may observe national and local celebrations/activities and holidays other than
those indicated in Enclosure 3, provided that the total number of school days shall not
be compromised.
6.

Make-up classes can. therefore be conducted to compensate for the school days

spent for activities deemed benef

icial to- the teaching-learning process. Likewise, make
up classes are recommended in lieu of class cancellations due to occurrence of natural
and man-made calamities. A mechanism for having make-up classes must be agreed

apon by the school administrators and parents. In this regard, the RO may issue a
regional school calendar to ref
lect their respective concerns.

Implemenfing Guidelines of the School Calendar f
or School Year (SY) 2016-2017

1. The school year shall formally open on June 13, 2016, Monday and shall end on April
2016, Friday. The school year shall consist of 202 class days. This is inclusive of the f
ive-d,
semestral break. To ensure quality in the school operation and actual teaching-learning, a 18
day noit-negotiable contact time for teachers, and the physical presence of school heads

2. As par
t of the opening rites, all schools are expected to conduct a general assembly

ient stakeholders on the curriculum, programs, and ancillary services supporting learn
development and the continuous improvement of school outcomes. The orientation and fir

3. Parent-teacher conferences shall be conducted every quar
ter and shall be held on
Saturday, except on the last conference in April 2017. The conference is intended to apprise th
parents on the progress of performance of their children and ensure parental involvement ii
school activities.
4. All elementary schools shall administer the Early Childhood Development (ECD,
Checklist for Kindergarten Children during the opening of classes, midyear, and end of schoo
/ear. The result will be used as basis for planning and formulating appropriate interventions fo
children.
5. At the end of the Second Quarter, a semestral break shall be observed to evaluate
ndividual teachers and their collective performance, as well as to conduct the Irt-Servict
"raining (INSET) activities in support oftheir continuing professional development.

The Christmas break shall begin on December 22, 2016, Thursday. Classes shall resume

To assure quality of the lear
ner's education, formative assessments shall be regularly
onducted by the teachers. On the national level, the Bureau of Education Assessment, formerly
lational Education Testing and Research Centers shall administ
er the National Career
ssessment Examination (NCAE), the Language Assessmentfor Primary Grades (LAPG) and the
'ational Achievement Test (NAT), The NCAE shall be conducted to assess the aptitude and
fterests of high school students who plan to proceed to post-secondary courses and other career
Jtions and to provide them with relevant information on their skills, abilities, and readiness for
;ademic and non-academic courses which will help rhern make informed career decisions. The
<\ G shall be conducted to measure the literacy skills of the learners in their respective Mother
imgues, Filipino and English, and the NAT shall be conducted to measure what, learners in
rade 7 and Grade 10 know and can do in five learning areas (Science, Mathematics, English,
liptno and Araling Panlipunan) and to assess the attainment of 21sl-century skills.
The summer/remedial classes shall begin on April 17, 2017, Monday and end on May
, 2017, Saturday, the last day for the f
inal examination. A separate issuance regarding the

In preparation for the opening of classes for SY 2017-2018. the schools shall conduct the .
