I am very sad to learn about the demise of former President and

Chairman of Irans Expediency Discernment Council
Akbar Hashemi
Rafsanjani. My sincere condolences and sympathy to his family, and the
Iranian people at this hour of bereavement. Ayatollah Rafsanjani was an
influential figure not only in Iran but also a symbol of peace & reconciliation
in Asia and the West . We fondly remember his three day visit in India in April
1995 when he addressed Joint Session of Indian Parliament and opened a new
chapter in India-Iran friendship. His message to fellow Asians to face "new
threats to peace and new hurdles to development in the world will remain a
guiding principle for coming together of Asian countries. His immense trust in
perseverance to rebuild Iran emerged from deep religious roots. He was equally
at ease offering namaz and explaining Quran to young and old alike; as also
handling global diplomacy.
Today, when the world needs sane voice, Ayatollah has left us all alone. But his
messages are enshrined in the hearts of young leadershipto patiently work for
development, maintaining cultural stability. I pray to Allah , the Almighty to
rest the his soul in peace and grant his family patience.
And none shall be granted such goodness, except those who are steadfast.
