A note on placing modes for mesh reinforcement

You can choose from different placing modes on the Enter Bending
Shape and Placement and Area Reinforcement (Mesh) flyouts of the
Engineering toolbar.

Place Individually: use this approach when the size of your

reinforcing steel meshes is given or you wish to define it yourself.
A preview of the reinforcing steel mesh is displayed attached to
the crosshairs and can be placed where you require in the size
you specify.

Span Reinforcement: this is most commonly used for drawing

a bottom reinforcement layer in a slab or the basic reinforcement
for a floor slab. You define the span as an outline polygon. The
support depth can be identical on all sides or entered separately
from support to support. When the area to be reinforced has been
defined, a toolbar appears where you can define the type of
reinforcing steel mesh, the placing direction, lap joints and the
direction of the reinforcing steel mesh diagonals. You can also
choose between group or single reinforcing steel mesh placement
here.

Support Reinforcement: use this placement for the

reinforcement in the area to be supported. The parameters are
the same as those for span reinforcement and can be set as
required.

Edge Reinforcement: the reinforcing steel mesh placement

can be placed using a specific width on an edge that you define.
The parameters are the same as those for span reinforcement and
can be set as required.

Enter Bent-Up Mesh: you can use this to create a bent

reinforcing steel mesh shape that can then be placed.

Whichever method you employ, Allplan 2005 will calculate the

overlap depending on the type of reinforcing steel mesh you select.
The placement algorithms are designed with economic considerations
in mind. However, this can be changed at any time by specifying the
lap joint yourself. The lap joint can be labeled if required
Options).

meshes changes.

A note on selecting elements in a direction-dependent manner

In the Filter Assistant,
Select elements in direction-dependent
manner is active by default.
When this option is enabled, the selection depends on the direction
in which you enter the region:
To the left selects the elements that are fully bounded or
intersected by the selection window. With this method, the
selection rectangle is shown as dashed lines, and the area it
covers is highlighted in light green while you select elements.
To the right only selects the elements that are fully bounded by
the selection window (with this method, the area is highlighted in
blue).

A note on edge reinforcement with meshes

The
Edge Reinforcement tool in Mesh Reinforcement is
equivalent to the tool with the same name in the Bar Reinforcement
module. The approach was described with the edge reinforcement of
the slab. The procedure for selecting the mesh type and setting the
parameters is the same as for the tool we have already used in the
Mesh Reinforcement module. Consequently, this tool is not described
any further here.
A special placing mode - surplus mesh placement - can be used for
edge reinforcement. To do this, create a reinforcing steel mesh
cutting diagram and place it in the drawing. You can now click a
left-over mesh and place it in its entirety or just parts of it. This
method is described in more detail in the pages that follow.

Task 6: Display Options

Provided by Drawing Files and Layers
In the previous exercises you created the top and bottom
reinforcement layers in different drawing files. This way, you can
display the entire top and/or bottom slab reinforcement separately by
selecting the corresponding drawing files.
In addition, layers allow you to control how the reinforcement is
displayed within the selected drawing files.
If you want, you can create the entire reinforcement including the
bottom layer, spacers, additional shear reinforcement, top layer etc.
on different layers in a single drawing file. Furthermore, you can
always use the same shell when you want to output the
reinforcement to separate layouts. In this case, individual
reinforcement definitions are superimposed - as in practice.
When it comes to printing out layouts, you can define different layer
sets to which you assign the corresponding layers.

To display reinforcing bars and meshes separately

Drawing file4002 should be current while drawing files 800 and
801 are open in edit mode. All the other drawing files are closed.

Task 3: Bar Schema

Introduction
The Partial and Full Schema tools provide a way of displaying the
internal number-off and bending shape management in the
reinforcement drawing. You can place a schema bar and label for
every mark in the drawing file. The schema will automatically update
to reflect any changes you make to the placed reinforcement or
bending shapes. Allplan 2005 also provides a number of different
display options here that you can configure to suit your own needs
and requirements. You can choose from the following options:
You can select between full schemas (number off information on
all the placements of a mark) and a partial schema (number off
information on several placements of a mark).
The bending shape can be drawn to scale or not (only for bar
reinforcement).
The bending shape can be rotated and mirrored prior to being
placed.
The bending shape can be displayed so that it is aligned with the
placement.

Allplan 2005

Task 1: Shell for Beam

Introduction
The tools in the
Shell module are used to create clipping paths
and views. These form the basis for the reinforcement drawing later.
At first glance, views and sections would appear to be no different
from 2D data. However, they are derived from a three-dimensional
model and are therefore inherently linked. Placing reinforcement or
making modifications in a view or a section has an immediate and
direct effect on the three-dimensional model and consequently on all
the other views and sections. Due to this three-dimensional
association, views and sections have to be modified using the
module-specific edit tools.
To create reinforcement, at least two orthogonal views or sections are
required. You can create any number of additional sections by
deriving them from the three-dimensional model. The reinforcement
is automatically displayed in the appropriate manner. Sections are
different to views in that they have a spatially delimited depth. This
delimitation is defined using two clipping lines.

Displaying the exterior and interior wall reinforcement in a single
shell can lead to a complex representation; this is especially true in
the case of a large number of different reinforcement layers.
As with the slab reinforcement, it is useful to display the layers
separately.
To separate the two reinforcement layers, you will start by copying
the view of the wall. Then you will convert the reinforcement views
to sections and define the clipping area accordingly. For the walls to
be displayed in both views, the shell views will not be converted to
sections.

5 Select the top view of the wall.
6 Enter points to define the section
Define the clipping area in the top view of the wall. Select the
entire view by clicking two diagonally opposite points.
Then press ESC.
7 Enter more points to define another section
In plan, define a clipping area from the exterior edge to the
middle of the wall by clicking two diagonally opposite points.
Then press ESC.
8 Skip the prompt for a section identifier by pressing ESC.
9 Convert the bottom wall view to a section in the same manner. In
plan, define the second clipping area from the middle to the
inside edge of the wall.
In the two views, only the corner reinforcement and the exterior
or interior reinforcement are now displayed. These placements
can be hidden using the
Modify Placement Display Mode
tool (Engineering Modify flyout). To show the placements again,
use
Reinforcement Tools (Display flyout).
10 Finally, use
Dimension Line/Label and
Label (Display

Exercise 4: Foundation
Reinforcement
In the following exercise, you will reinforce a center-loaded
foundation with the following dimensions a/b/d = 2.40/2.40/0.60 m.
The dimensions of the column are 24/24 cm. In the preceding
exercises a spatial shell always served as the basis for reinforcement.
In this exercise, you will create the reinforcement using a 2D shell.
First draw the shell using the tools in the Draft module. Then create
the reinforcement as a three-dimensional model that references the
2D shell. With this approach, you can create an additional section in
which the entire reinforcement is displayed. Finally, you will display
the foundation reinforcement in a perspective view.

Task 4: Reinforcement in Section B-B

Overview
While you were creating the reinforcement, no display in section B-B
was generated as the shell is not 3D. The reinforcement itself,
however, exists as a three-dimensional model. This means that we
can create a new section with the entire reinforcement and place it in
the shell of section B-B.
