3. Target Level: from beginner to intermediate
Answer Key & Procedures:
1) Use this exercise to explore the title and pre-teach “have a lot/nothing in common”
2) Draw students’ attention to the numbers in the lyrics. Ask them to imagine what the opposites
might be. For example, in number 1 (“You like the movies, 1”), possible answers would be, “I
hate the movies”, “I love the beach”, “I like TV”, etc. Then lead them to the box on the right and
ask them to find the opposite to “I like the movies”. Let students try out the next ones by
themselves, but let the beginners know some options can be too difficult and they should skip
them or go by elimination. Alternatively, pair them up for this task.
3) Take advantage of their problems in #2 to teach or recycle vocab. Have them practice it in pairs in
number 3.
4) Organize students in trios for them to discuss. Then ask groups to give feedback on something
interesting that was said.
5) If time allows, have students list as many opposites as they can. Then pair them up and have them
play “opposites”. If one says, “I’m tall”, the other has to say, “I’m short.” If one says “I love the
summer”, the other has to say, “I love the winter.”
