[10] (1) A test rocket is launched by accelerating it along a

200.0-m incline at 1.25 m/s2 starting from rest at point A (as
shown in figure.) The incline rises at 35.0 above the horizontal,
and at the instant the rocket leaves it, its engines turn off and it
is subject only to gravity (air resistance can be ignored). Find
(i) the maximum height above the ground that the
rocket reaches, and
(ii) the greatest horizontal range of the rocket beyond
point A.

[10] (2) The three blocks of masses 10.0T kg, 5.00 kg, and 3.00 kg are
1
connected by light strings that pass over frictionless pulleys as shown in the
figure. The acceleration of the 5.00 kg block is 2.00 m/s2 to the left, and all
the surfaces have the same roughness. Find:
i The tension T2.
ii The coefficient of kinetic friction between blocks and surfaces.

10.0 kg block as shown in Figure. A
horizontal force of 45.0 N is applied to the
10.0 kg block, and the 5.0 kg block is tied
to the wall. The coefficient of kinetic

[10] (4) As shown, blocks A and B

have weights of 44 N and 22 N,
respectively.
(i)
Determine
the
minimum weight of block C to keep A
from sliding if s between A and the

lifted off A. What is the acceleration

by a massless string and slide
down a 30 inclined plane. The
coefficient of kinetic friction
between the lighter block and
the plane is 0.10, and the
coefficient between the heavier
block and the plane is 0.20.

[10] (6) In the figure, a slab of mass m1 = 40 kg rests on a frictionless floor,

and a block of mass m2 = 10 kg rests on top of the slab. Between block and
slab, the coefficient of static friction is 0.60, and the coefficient of kinetic
friction is 0.40. A horizontal force of magnitude 100 N begins to pull directly
on the block, as shown. What are the resulting accelerations of (i) the block
and (ii) the slab?

[10] (7) The figure shows a conical

pendulum. Its bob, whose mass m is 1.5 kg,
whirls around in a horizontal circle at constant
speed
v at the end of a cord whose length L,
R
measured
B to the center of the bob, is 1.7 m.
The cord makes an angle of 37o with the
vertical. As the bob swings around in a circle,
the cord sweeps out the surface of a cone with

10] (8) As shown in figure, a 1.34 kg ball is connected by means of two

massless strings to a vertical, rotating rod. The strings that are tied to the
rod, are rigid, and form two sides of an equilateral triangle. The tension in
the upper string is 35 N. What is the speed of the ball?

Earth

[10] (9) An artificial satellite in a circular orbit around the Sun has a period of
8 years. Determine the ratio of the satellites orbital radius about the Sun to
the earths orbital radius about the Sun. Assume that the earths orbit about
the Sun is circular.

[10] (10) A satellite is in a circular orbit about the earth (ME = 5.98 x 1024 kg).
The period of the satellite is
1.20 x 104 s. What is the speed at which the
satellite travels?
