2014 - Present (3 years)
Co-founded Women in Security and Privacy along with several other accomplished Bay Area women. WISP
is a fiscally-sponsored Project of Community Initiatives. WISP is a group of women in privacy and security
and our mission is to:
- Increase representation of women in these industries;
- Build a trusted community of advocates, mentors, and partners;
- Advance leadership opportunities; and
- Drive innovation through exchange of ideas, best practices, and referrals.
WISP is uniquely positioned to provide its members with professional opportunities across STEM industries.
Today, knowledge of both privacy and security principles is critical in any information-driven organization.
Until recently, these two fields have generally been viewed as separate, sometimes overlapping, disciplines.
Few organizations bring the two together and view the fields holistically. WISP aims to break down the
silos between privacy and information security, and promote a collaborative relationship between these
fields. WISP is a cross-disciplinary organization our membership base consists of women with STEM
or STEM-related backgrounds, and non-STEM backgrounds. Through our varied membership base, and
membership exposure to Privacy/InfoSec STEM careers, we hope to encourage women to enter STEM

related professions, by demonstrating that Privacy/InfoSec STEM knowledge is a valuable asset that can be
applied across industries.

Co-Founder at Financial Literacy Empowerement Network (FLEN)
2009 - 2011 (2 years)
It is more important than ever to educate individuals financially. The countrys lack of financial
sophistication is one of the reasons for its current economic problem. Increasing financial literacy will
improve the lives of millions. Financial education can help people of any age, race, gender, or socioeconomic background to make informed and responsible financial decisions. However, it is impossible
to achieve financial literacy without the collaboration and infrastructure of four sectors: the government,
corporate America, nonprofits, and individuals. The Financial Literacy Empowerment Network (FLEN)
recognizes that without working together, none of these four groups can achieve success. FLEN offers a
simple but effective network to provide much needed services to strengthen consumer economic stability and
competency while encouraging four groups to work together to achieve this goal.
The purpose of FLEN is to increase financial literacy by means of an efficient infrastructure comprised of the
collaboration of four sectors: the government, corporate, non-profits, and individuals by (i) helping to expand
awareness, (ii) combining and providing new and already available financial literacy programs, expertise,
and resources, (ii) addressing the challenges and efforts, and (iv) encouraging individuals to improve their
lives and take ownership of their future.

Volunteer Experience
Advisory Board at Strategic Action for a Just Economy (SAJE)
August 2010 - August 2011
Over the past decade, SAJE has worked in collaboration with Esperanza Community Housing Corporation
and the St. Johns Well Child and Family Center, as well as other community partners, to develop
comprehensive approaches to public health and wellness that included community and tenant education and
engagement and public health strategies to combat one of the most pervasive determinants of poor health in
South LA, substandard and slum housing conditions.
The result of this work was groundbreaking, and brought to light the critical connections between substandard
housing, and the health of South Los Angeles residents. The collaborative has identified a broad array of
slum-housing induced diseases (i.e. asthma, chronic skin conditions, lead poisoning, etc.) and works with
tenants to act upon and rectify the housing conditions that are making them sick. The most severely impacted
victims of this public health crisis are the children who live in these buildings. Children are more susceptible
to a range of debilitating diseases such as asthma, lead poisoning, and chronic skin conditions that have a
negative and long lasting impact on their physical and mental development and their ability to function and
thrive in daily activities, such as school or sports.

Sr. Privacy & Data Protection Management Executive | Data Strategist | Entrepreneur | Public Speaker

10 people have recommended Elena

"Elena is one of the most passionate, high-achieving, team-oriented people I have ever met. I had the
privilege of working with her on the McKesson employee resource group for women (aka OWN IT) and she
was the driving force for much of our progress. She did a terrific job of mobilizing people around a common
vision, winning support for our initiatives, and motivating the extended team to put in the extra effort required
to drive change. She cares deeply about her work and her teammates. She is one of the first people I would
hire if I were ever starting my own company!"
Andy Burtis, SVP, Corporate Marketing & Communications, McKesson, worked with Elena at McKesson
"Elena is a delight to work with and get to know. She is energetic, upbeat, and her passion for learning and
desire to always take on more makes working with her a pleasure. She is an excellent networker, building
relationships between people and organizations adroitly. She is also confident, creative, and thinks outside of
the box, always wanting to innovate and improve existing models. I would welcome the opportunity to hire
her again."
Sharon Anolik, Vice President & Global Privacy Risk and Strategy Leader, McKesson, managed Elena at
McKesson
"Elena is someone who you can count on to be on top of the latest innovation and ideas. She has an astute
way to proactively lead and engage the right stakeholders to accomplish mission critical goals. Elena is a
thoughtful teammate and delightful colleague, who has a great charisma and talent to inspire others in her
passion for privacy. "
Elizabeth Lee, Global Privacy Director -- Enterprise and Corporate functions, McKesson, worked
directly with Elena at McKesson
"Elena is incredibly sharp and knowledgeable in privacy law. Working with Elena, she is always able to
clearly explain the legal aspects of any decision or activity from a privacy perspective. Elena is a pleasure
to work with and I am always impressed by her organization skills. She is always prepared and is a valuable
asset to the team. "
Emily Schultz, Employment & Investigations Counsel, Axiom, worked with Elena at McKesson

"Elena is a highly skilled professional who brings passion for law and privacy. She has an attention to detail
that is rare. She is also a great person with a positive attitude who elevates results by thinking creatively. She
constantly strives to exceed expectations and is an all around great person. I would recommend Elena and
would gladly work with her again. "
Michael Dore - ESQ, MBA, CISSP, Senior Manager - Privacy Innovation, McKesson, worked directly
with Elena at McKesson
"Since her introduction to Junior Achievement of Southern California in 2006, Elena Elkina has worked
with over a dozen groups of teens in continuation schools and communities with a strong gang presence.
Elena takes the time she has with students to share relevant work readiness skills, teach financial literacy,
and employ entrepreneurialism with hands on curriculum that keeps students enthralled. In three years time,
she has recruited close to 50 volunteers to mentor at-risk youth in low income neighborhoods. Over 1,400
students have benefited from the volunteers that she has helped place into classrooms to teach students skills
that would not have been gained otherwise. The youth that have gone through programs taught by Elena
and her network of volunteers have been accepted to college, shared budgeting skills with their family, and
created student run businesses. Elena recognized the necessity to fund the financial education curriculum
being provided to students, so she continues to be the led coordinator in her companys Bowl-a-Thon a
program that allows corporations to raise funds to benefit Junior Achievements classroom materials. Elena
and her colleagues have risen over $13,000, and through Elenas advocacy of financial literacy for youth,
thousands of dollars in corporate gifts have been made to Junior Achievement. She has also taken time off
work to volunteer at charity events, in addition to organizing an electronic waste fundraiser that recycled
several tons of waste while financially benefiting Junior Achievement. In January of this year, Elena helped
to create the Junior Achievement Leadership Council a group of passionate Junior Achievement volunteers
dedicated to the success of youth in their communities. She is currently the co-President, and under her
leadership, a grassroots strategy to increase classroom volunteers, communications, and contributions has
been formed. The group has already begun fundraising to meet a $100,000 goal. Elenas desire to help young
people succeed does not end at Junior Achievement. She sits on the board of two local nonprofits, Rosemary
Childrens Services and Haven House. Elenas role as the co-Treasure for the Junior League of Pasadena
has helped to make numerous empowerment events a success for young girls. Not only has she fundraised
for the aforementioned nonprofits, but Elena also planned the logistics for the BE R.E.A.L, Girls Rock, and
Body Wise programs that were attended by hundreds of middle school girls. Although the results of Elenas
volunteering can be easily calculated through the number of young people she has affected, the amount of
funds she has raised, and the total volunteers that she has recruited, there is no quantifiable measurement for
the long term impact she has had on the students that she has mentored and the adults that she has inspired."
Shiva Darbandi, was with another company when working with Elena at First Private Bank & Trust
"Elena Elkina is a pleasure to work with. Her attention to detail, diligence, and curiosity of subject matter are
exemplary. She exudes energy and determination. During our involvement in several projects, Elena kept an

Page13

upbeat attitude while not losing focus on the task at hand. She was full of innovative ideas that helped shape
the projects. She works extremely well in team environment and emerged as a leader on many occasions.
Elena is capable of managing all stages of a project and carrying it through to completion. She excels on all
fronts and would be a great addition to any team. I am looking forward to working with her again."
Victor Starostenko, worked directly with Elena at Financial Literacy Empowerement Network (FLEN)
"Elena expressed great community involvement while at Far East National Bank. She was a fast learner and
always willing to take on additional initiates. Great team player with great enthusiasm!!"
Alice Zandpour, worked with Elena at Far East National Bank
"Elena is a very thorough, diligent, and strategic as well as tactical person who often takes the lead role in
projects. She always listens to the branch/business units and ensures that the business/regulatory needs,
as well as the overall strategic vision of the Bank. Finding that balance---meeting business/regulatory
requirements and the Banks goals---is not an easy task, and Elena accomplishes this with integrity,
professionalism and genuine care for all parties involved. Her ability to identity issues and create resolutions
is a great contribution to the success of the tasks and projects she is assigned. Elenas extra effort and
ability to take on tasks with little direction to accomplish objectives is superb. Additionally, Elena is always
willing to do whatever needed to be completed in order for a task and/or project to stay on schedule. I highly
recommend Elena and hope that our professional paths cross again in the near future."
Cindy Diaz, worked with Elena at Far East National Bank
"Elena is a energetic, goal oriented and committed employee/volunteer. We worked together on a few
projects and her "can do" attitude along with her bright personality is a credit to any organization."
Karen Drew, SVP/CRC, managed Elena indirectly at Far East National Bank
