Assignment 3
Task1 (P6)

Loop1: 5V=1I1+4I3
Loop2: 7V=2I2+4I3
Loop3: 5-7=I1-2I2
Now: I3 =I2+I1
therefore Loop 1: 5V=I1+4(I1+I2) and Loop2: 7V=2I2+4(I1+I2)
when we expand and simplify two equations above we get:
1) for Loop1: 5V=5I1+4I2
2) for Loop2: 7V=6I2+4I1
when we solve these equation simultaneously by making equation 1's I2 same
as equation 2's I2 we get: 0.5V=3.5I1 and therefore I1=0.1428mA. when we
substitute I1 into equation 1 we get I2=1.071425mA
Now: I3 =I2+I1 therefore I3=0.1428mA+1.071425mA=1.21422mA
Now to find Voltage across the power dissipated by the resistor we going to use
V=IR formula to find potential difference across each resistor.
For Voltage across R1: V1=I1*R1=0.1428*1=0.1428V
For Voltage across R2: V2=I2*R2=1.071425*2=2.143V
For voltage across R3: V3=I3*R3=1.21422*4=4.85688V

Assignment 3
Task 2 (P6)
The current supplied is shown on the proteus software below: I've place AC
ammeter in the series with each resistor to measure current by simulating

circuit.
I3=I1+I2=0.14+1.07=1.21
422mA
The voltage across the power dissipated by the resistors is shown on the
proteus software below: I've placed Voltmeter in parallel with resistors to

measure potential difference by simulating circuit.

Assignment 3
Task 1(MS office method) results
for current: I1=0.1428mA, I2=1.07143mA, I3=1.2142mA
for Voltage: V1=0.1428V, V2=2.143V, V3=4.85688V
Task 2 (proteus 8 method) results:
for current: I1=0.14mA, I2=1.07mA, I3=
for Voltage:
to compare both methods I will look at main factors such as: speed, accuracy,
efficiency and difficulty.
MS office method
Proteus 8 method
Speed
In terms of speed MS
Compared to MS office
office is extremely slow
Proteus 8 is very fast as
because it consumes lot
all you need to do is to
of time to draw out
select your components
circuit and then calculate from the given list, plot
and type up results using your circuit by simply
Kirchhoff's law which
placing components in
makes it huge
right place and then test
disadvantage.
it using VSM debugging
mode.
Accuracy
In terms of accuracy MS
Proteus is accurate
office is much better as it however not as accurate
gives you more accurate
as MS office method
answer (more significant
because it doesn't
figures) as you can see
provide answer in as
my results in MS office
many significant figures
method are lot more
as proteus 8. although as
accurate as they have
I later figured out that
more significant figures.
proteus 8 results could be
put in Amps, milliamps
and even microamps
which means that answer
could be shown in lot of
significant figures making
it more accurate,
however it still doesn't
mean that proteus is
more accurate than MS
method because MS
method can show up to
16 significant figures
meaning that answer
could be beyond micro
level.
Efficiency
MS office is not very
In my opinion proteus is
efficient as it consumes
very efficient because
a lot of time as well as
whole process of plotting
difficulty of drawing out
circuit and calculation is
circuit.
very fast and easy to do

Assignment 3
Difficulty

which makes it efficient.

Proteus is very easy to
use as it's easy to build
and doesn't require no
calculations because it
calculates results for you
automatically.

MS office is very difficult

to use as you have to
draw out circuit meaning
that I have to draw out
individual components
using basic shapes such
as square and then text
box to write results inside
box. Then after taking
long time to draw it out I
have to use calculator
and Kirchhoff's law to
manually find results of
my task.
Conclusion: In overall proteus is lot better than MS office as it is more efficient
because it's fast, easy to use and build etc... which is most important factors in
engineering world where quality, difficulty and time consumption matters the
most.

Task 4 (M3)
1) The equation I have used is: X=

peak
50(sin(100 t)) without shifted
sine wave
value=50

Peak value=50

2) equation with shifted sine wave is: X= 50(sin(100 t+ /3))

Assignment 3
X=

50(sin (100 t)) without shifted sine wave

3) In my opinion Excel is very effective software and tool for drawing, plotting
and analysing graphs because all it needs is table of results that could be
calculated using excel itself as you can enter all sorts of equation that will give
you results necessary for your table which then you put into table, after getting
2+ results you can simply select those results and get rest of the results
following formula that you've put in, it does that by memorising formula and then
following the same sequence and applying it to rest of the table, which can
significantly reduce your time that it would normally take you by doing it
manually. Formula could contain something as simple as addition/subtraction,
multiplication/division or as complicated as having integration/differentiation also
function of a function and ratios. With excel you can also label your graphs very
clearly for displaying/illustrating purposes which makes it easy to understand to
someone who is not very familiar with graphs. It makes whole process so
efficient as you save time and effort that would normally be a lot more if it to be
done manually where you would have to use calculator for each individual result
then write it in the table and only then start plotting graph using writing tool e.g.
pen/pencil and in addition graph paper. in comparison it takes about 3060minutes manually and only about 2-10minutes using excel which is in average
about 6-15 times faster and easier saving you time and effort that could be
crucial therefore making it very efficient and effective when dealing with
problems involving calculation, tables and graphs.

MS office compared to excel method is very ineffective due to few reasons such
as: time consumption, effort, efficiency and accuracy. If we look at both graphs
made with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word we can see graph drawn by using
Microsoft word is not as accurate as the one drawn by using Microsoft excel
