In this bulletin you will hear about some of
the work Inclusion North is doing and
information about what is happening across
the country.
How to get the right support using the law
People with learning disabilities (aged 16+) and family
carers have stronger rights under the Care Act. Do you
know how it might affect you and your son, daughter,
brother, sister, husband, wife, cousin, niece, nephew,
other relative or friend?

Reviews Training Workshop
MixIt NHS England and NHS North Yorkshire and Humber
are having an event
Whats it all about?
The programme will be a performance of the play #A life is
not a hashtag and workshops that look at positive
outcomes and negative behaviours.
What are the aims of the day?
Ask people what they think about what is happening
in our area.
Ask participants to think and act in a Person Centred
way
Get people to be open minded about the process of
CTRs
Encourage participants to recognise the importance
& involvement of Experts by Experience during CTR
Who should come along?
People with learning disabilities, autism or both with
lived in experience and family carers
Self-Advocacy Groups Transforming Care
Partnerships and Partnership Board leads
Learning disability nurses in assessment and
treatment units and Community Teams
Commissioners
Social care managers/ workers & nurses in adults
and children services

Local Government Ombudsman and Social Care


Ombudsman Event
The Local Government Ombudsman and Social Care
Ombudsman are having some events.
These events are for people who deal with complaints and
those say how complaints are dealt with.
You will have the chance to:

Meet the new Ombudsman


Learn how to use complaints to make things better
Meet with other people who deal with complaints
Hear what has been achieved during the six years

NICE Quality Standard Moving From Children to


Adult Services
NICE the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence
have written a standard about moving from Children to
Adult Services.
The quality standard is
Young people who will move from children's to adults'
services start planning their transition with health and
social care practitioners by school year 9 (aged 13 to
14 years), or immediately if they enter children's
services after school year 9.
Young people who will move from children's to adults'
services have an annual meeting to review transition
planning.
Young people who are moving from children's to
adults' services have a named worker to coordinate
care and support before, during and after transfer.
Young people who will move from children's to adults'
services meet a practitioner from each adults' service
they will move to before they transfer.
Young people who have moved from children's to
adults' services but do not attend their first meeting or
appointment are contacted by adults' services and
given further opportunities to engage.

NHS Learning Disability Update


The NHS have an EasyRead Learning Disability Update.
The update is about some of the work that is happening
and getting people with learning disabilities involved.
It includes
An update from a forum where 75 people with
learning disabilities and or autism their families and
carers attended

Breast Cancer Care Screening
Personal Health Budgets
Transforming Care Partnerships

Vulnerable Children and Families Education


Lenehan Survey
The Minister for Vulnerable Children and Families Edward
Timpson has asked Dame Chrisitne Lenehan to review the
outcomes and experiences of young people attending
residential special schools and colleges.
People who they want to take part are people working in
residential settings, students attending these residential
schools and colleges, their parents or carers, and children,
young people and adults who have now left these settings.

Connect in the North How to Find a House Event


Are you someone with learning difficulties thinking about
moving? Do you live in Leeds? Do you have a family
member with learning difficulties thinking about moving?
Do you support someone with learning difficulties from
Leeds whod like to move? If so this event will be useful to
you.
In the morning you will hear from 4 housing experts. In the
afternoon there will be a chance to book an appointment
with one of them and get some personal advice.
Michael Camponi from Leeds Housing Options will
explain about the Choice Based Lettings system in
Leeds.
Andrew Garrick from Adult Social Care will talk about
looking for housing with support.
Steve Harris from Reside Housing Association will tell
us about different ways to find somewhere to live.
Jayne Knight from Lets for Life will explain how Lets
for Life might be able to help people choose a
property to rent.

Mens Group At The Hut


The Hut York is a safe place for people with learning
disabilities and or mental health issues to go and meet
other people.
The Hut has a group for men on a
Wednesday From 3pm to 4pm
The men get together and talk about things that are
important to them.

Autism Friendly Cinema


Some cinemas show Autism friendly films. Dimensions
have a list of the Cinemas and what films are available.
The cinemas make sure that
The lights are kept on at a low level
The sound is kept lower than normal
No trailers or advertisements - just the film
Allowance for increased levels of movement and
noise

Capital of Culture Hull


As part of Hull Capital of Culture 2017 we have looked for
interesting Events for people. We will be looking to give
you information about Hull events in the bulletins during
the year.
Here are two of the assisted performances from the Hull
2017 Back to Ours Season One Made in Hull.
Meet Fred with British Sign language.
Fred is a two-foot-tall cloth puppet who fights prejudice
every day.
Fred just wants to be part of the real world, to get a job
and meet a girl, but when threatened with losing his PLA
(Puppetry Living Allowance),
Freds life begins to spiral out of control.

The Story of MR B a relaxed performance
The Story of Mr B, a surprise-filled puppet show, set in a
giant pop-up book, which tells the story of Mr
Bumblegrum.
