SCOPE

1.1

This KOC Standard covers the minimum technical requirements and the basic
guidelines for design, manufacture, construction and installation of fire protection
system and safety equipment for KOC onshore facilities in Kuwait.

1.2

Fire protection requirements within KOC are broadly classified into Active Fire
Protection and Passive Fire Protection. This KOC Standard covers Active Fire
Protection system as mentioned below:
a) Fire Water system

b) Water Sprinkler / Deluge system

c) Fixed or Semi-Fixed Foam system

d) Portable / Mobile Fire Fighting Equipment

1.3

This KOC Standard specifies the minimum requirements for the following Safety
Equipment:
a) Safety Showers, Eye Wash, and Eye / Face Wash Units
b) Respiratory Protective Equipment

c) First-Aid kits, Stretchers, etc.

1.4

Exclusions
a) This KOC Standard does not cover Passive Fire Protection requirements. For
passive fire proofing / protection "KOC Standard for Fire Proofing of Structural
Steelwork-Materials and Workmanship" (KOC-C-027) and other relevant
standards shall be referred.
b) Fire / Smoke / Gas / Heat detection Systems etc. For Fire & Gas Equipment,
refer to KOC-L-006 "KOC Standard for Fire & Gas Detection Equipment".
c) Buildings such as residential buildings, offices, sports complex, warehouse / stores
etc. in Ahmadi and other office building as Burgan Office Complex, Fire Station etc.,
situated outside KOC Plant facilities are excluded from this KOC standard. Fire
Protection requirements for such buildings have been defined in "KOC Standard for
Fire Protection of Non-Plant Buildings" (KOC-L-020).
d) Active Fire Protection system other than
Substation(s), Control/Office / Utility Building.

e) Drilling rigs, Christmas tree and well heads.
