Utilitarianism is the school of thought were the moral thing to do is the path that leads to people having

the most amount of happiness for the most amount of people. Whereas the natural-law theory says that

there are good and bad morals in the world and are determined by critical thinking and the natural laws

based in the Judeo-Christian moralities. So, for example take the Iraq War. The United States invaded

Iraq mostly because of 9/11 and the falsified or miss interpreted data that Iraq had weapons of mass

destruction. The result of the several years of warfare between the US and its allies and the Iraq

government and the insurgents was a massive destruction of infrastructure in Iraq, thousands of dead

on both sides and the increase in instability in the region. A utilitarian would say that the Iraq war was

wrong because it causes little happiness for all sides. Most people who suffered from 9-11 did not feel

avenged after Iraq fell and lots of people on both sides lost their lives or left with phycological problems

but it did save some people in Iraq who were oppressed. Whereas a naturalist would say that it was

worth the fight because the Iraq government was evil but that does not mean you must go to war. In

conclusion, the utilitarian would have no justification for the war whereas the naturalist would have so

justification or debate for the operation. However, both sides would have a justification for different

environmental issues.

Today we have several issues with the environment which are brought about by both human

and natural causes. The mass industrialization in the prominent nations which caused a raise in pollution

levels and general climate change of the Earth which is not correlated with the human activity.
