CLASS-C TUNED VOLTAGE AMPLIFIER

Aim:-
1. To study the operation of tuned voltage amplifier and
find out the resonant frequency from the given L and C
and compare it with the theoretical values.
2. To plot the frequency response.

Apparatus:-

1. Class C tuned voltage amplifier module.

2. Base unit
3. Dual trace oscilloscope

Circuit Diagram:-

Theory:-

The circuit diagram shows the circuit of a single tuned

amplifier using BJT. The resistors R 1, R2 and RE fix up the
operating point and stabilize it. The tuned circuit consisting
of inductance and capacitance acts like a load resistor of the
amplifier circuit. Out put is taken with the help of capacitive
coupling. Voltage gain of an amplifier depends upon the AC
load resistance. If ZP is the impedance of the tuned circuit,
then the voltage gain is given by
0
AV = ZP / R in 180
The impedance of the tuned circuit at resonance is
resistive and is equal to L/CR. Therefore, the voltage gain of
the tuned amplifier at resonance is
AV = (L/CR) / R in 1800

This voltage gain is very high, since the quality of L/CR

is very high for a tuned circuit.

The voltage gain at the frequency away form resonance

decreases, since the impedance of the tuned circuit at these
frequencies also decreases. Hence the frequency response
curve of the tuned amplifier is similar to the impedance
frequency curve for a parallel resonant circuit.

The bandwidth of the amplifier is given by

BW = fr/Q

Q is a quality factor and is defined as the ratio of

inductive reactance to the resistance.

Q = XL/R = L/R = 2fL/R

Tuned voltage amplifiers are generally used in RF stage

of wireless communication systems. Here these circuits are
assigned the work of selecting the desired carrier frequency
and of amplifying the allowed pass band around this selected
carrier frequency.

Procedure:-
1. Connections are made as per the circuit diagram.
2. Calculate the theoretical resonant frequency.
Fr = 1/2LC

1. Connect the ac signal source from function generator to

the input.
2. Keep the input voltage constant varies the frequency in
regular steps and note down the corresponding output
voltage.
3. Plot the graph between output voltage and frequency.
4. Indicate the resonant frequency from the graph.
5. Calculate bandwidth and quality factor.

Result :-

The operation of tuned voltage amplifier is studied and

the resonant frequency is_____________________.
