TVD CALCULATION MUD PUMP NO. 1 NO. 2
APPLICATION NOTES
1. Start from the top of the hole for Well Geometry entries. Continue with entries ending at depth for drill bit.
2. Provision is made to calculate a TVD. Result can be used for a new or projected TVD for the bit or casing.
3. If the calculated MD for the bit in cell H16 is not correct, check the section length entries for possible error.
4. Provision is made to have two mud pumps in lieu of pumps having a different liner size.
5. The date is automatically posted by Excel.
6. A red triangle in the upper right hand corner of a cell signifies a user comment. Move cursor over cell for viewing.
7. If the result for ECD @ Last Casing Set displays an ERROR message or result, it simply means a comparison check has failed to
verify the
casing measured depth exist as the casing measured depth entry in cell H15. Check section lengths or data in cell H15 for a
possible error.
8. The application has the capability to evaluate or design for optimum bit hydraulics. The design is done by trial and error and
involves varying
the nozzle area, flow rate, mud properties and Reynolds Number to arrive at an optimum design within any defined limitation.
When the HHP
is at max, JIF if 94% of it's max. When JIF is at max, HHP is within 91% of it's max. The max HHP theory is recommend when
the best
bottom hole cleaning is needed at lower flow rates. The max JIF theory is recommended when higher flow rates are required.
Optimum
HHP is 65% and JIF is 48% of the standpipe pressure.
9. Critical Velocity is the highest velocity that flow will remain laminar. Normally, calculations are made with turbulent flow around the
drill
collars and laminar flow around the drill pipe. Flow rate range for design is 30 to 50 gallons per inch of bit diameter.
