Abstract

This literary review focuses on creating a positive learning environment for students. This can be

achieved through many different actions and needs to be consistently implemented. Students will

preform better if they have a positive environment to enter each day.

Domain E Literary Review

This is a literary review on 32 Strategies for Building a Positive Learning Environment by

Lina Raffaelli.

This article focuses on multiple different ways that teachers can provide students with a

positive learning environment and how important it is. Providing students with a positive

learning environment is instrumental for student success. A positive learning environment begins

with an introduction and starts at the beginning of the school year. Students should have a

positive beginning with their students as much as the students should have a positive relation

with each other. This can include icebreakers, sending letters home to the family before the year

starts.

When students have a positive learning environment it increases their level of comfort and

ability to retain new information. Candidates establish a sense of community, and promote

student effort and engagement by creating structures that emphasize collaborative activities and

joint problem-solving (Commission on Teacher Credentialing, 2013). Through collaborative

learning teachers can help create a positive learning environment through student connections.

Another way to help students connect is to involve technology. Technology in the classroom can

make lessons more enjoyable and something students can enjoy doing. I personally created a

project for the students using Google Slides and had the students present to their table groups

when they had completed. Students were invested in the project and the end results.

Another tip provided by Raffaelli is to seek support from colleagues and fellow educators. I

think that ideas is so important to be a successful teacher but it is not stressed enough. When

creating a positive learning environment teacher should consistently ask for feedback and modify

instructional strategies. Also, being observed allows you be have another set of eyes to catch

something you might have missed.

There are so many ways you can create a positive learning environment for students.

Teachers should try to use a healthy mix of different ideas but especially on ways that involve the

family. When students know their teacher and parents are in communication and it will entice

students to preform better.
