Blurb

Robert is an intelligent shy boy who could not imagine doing anything wrong,
Julia is an acentric party animal. Four years down the road the couple are as
inseparable as they were when they met at their year eight dance, however not
everything is as it seems, with university just round the corner and stress
building something had to go wrong, no one stays in paradise for ever and
Robert and Julia would find this out the hard way.

3
Format

This radio drama will be a nonlinear, single play, telling the story of one mans
experience with a friends death. It will be a single drama as I think the story
would be better told in a short space of time rather than being spread over a
series, this story also cant be done in a series format as the drama takes place
during an interview where every detail is asked to be recollected, this lengths the
drama but not long enough to create a successful series.
This drama will also have a nonlinear narrative, as to show flash backs as he man
is explain what is happening, I did this so that the tale is more interesting than
just one mans understanding of what happened. Using a nonlinear narrative
allows the audience to understand more and create their own views on what
happened, instead of just accepting what they have been told.

4
Outline

Robert and Julia have been dating for four years; everything seemed fine, but
under the surface, their relationship was heading towards dark water, after stress
building up from university applications and thinking about their futures Robert
decides to dump Julia. Devastated Julia begins acting strangely, becoming more
violent and angry towards everyone.
Using convocations and phone calls the audience will be shown the change in
personality until the penultimate act of a suicide note and Robert running to the
rescue with a knife, on the phone to Tom, only to find that he was too late, as he
is left on his knees looking at her swinging corpse.
All this will be told in a verity of flash backs being forced back into present day
by a police officer who is interviewing Tom, Robert and Julias close friend. Tom is
asked to recollect what he heard from the phone call.

5
Structure

Exposition
The audience will first begin to hear the beginning of an interview, with the tape
recorder being pressed and Tom being asked to state his name and other
information, this will then fade into a flash back of what he is talking about.
Conflict
The conflict of this drama is the break up between Robert and Julia; the conflict
will build up throughout the drama with Julia not being able to cope with the
break up resulting in more and more conflict between herself and the other
characters.
Resolution
There is not any resolution to this story, the only sign of resolution that the
audience is given is during one of the final segments when Robert finds Julia
dead.

Target audience

The target audience for this radio drama is teenagers/ early adults. This age
group of 16-24 year olds is the target audience as most likely, than not they
would have been through an event similar to the ones in the drama, from
relationship problems to dealing with loss. This target audience will also be able
to relate more to the drama as it is about their age group over other audiences
like middle ages women.
My radio drama is not aimed at one particular gender or ethnicity, but is instead
focused more on age as the topic of my radio drama can affect and be relatable
to any race or gender but is more relatable to a young adult audience.

Actors

The actors I will be using will be two girls and two guys. For the female roles, I
will be using Scarlett Coates to play female police officer and Gemma Lewis to
play Julia. In addition, for the male roles I will be using Morgan Pye to play Robert
and Elliott Wise to play Tom
Gemma Lewis
I chose this actor as she has a very distinct voice; she is also the right gender
and age to play Julia. She is able to stay calm and perform to a high standard in a
verity of situations, which will work well with this character role as it is of a
sensitive subject for most people. She has also done a verity of acting courses
over the years which will help her become the character and will make her
performance more believable.
Scarlett Coates
Scarlett was a young actor, having roles in major films like Thor and Jane Eyre,
she is a very enthusiastic and creative, these qualities will make her performance
more professional and believable.
Elliott Wise
He able to use a verity of accents to distinguish his voice from other character,
as well as being able to relate to the character to an extent.

12
Where it will be aired

This will be aired on BBC radio 4. I chose this station as it is very well known for
their diverse content, including crime, drama and comedy. This station however
is aimed more at the older end of my target audience; to appeal to the younger
section of my target audience I will also be airing my radio drama on social
media websites, for example, a section of the drama will be aired as an advert on
Instagram with a link for the full length broadcast on the post, this will be seen
by every Instagram user in the area. I chose Instagram as it is currently one of
the most popular social media websites/ apps currently (third most popular after
Facebook and YouTube).
The reason why I am not using Facebook to advertise or air my broadcast is that
many people may have the app, but very little check every day and instead are
using Instagram as their social media app of choice. The highest demographic of
users are aged between 25- 36 years old which isnt my target audience (29.7%).
