The teacher will write down their responses on the board to be referred back to later in the lesson. After each student has the opportunity to share, the class will watch the citizenship video. After viewing the video, the students and teacher will continue their discussion about citizenship and see if any students have changed their idea of a good citizen and the teacher will change it on the board.
The teacher can then focus on voting and why voting is important. Students will then watch the video about voting. After the video, the teacher can introduce a new lesson that the class will do over the next few days where the class will be divided into groups and research the upcoming presidential nominations. The students should be reminded what they though were indicators of a good citizen and that those are also important in presidential candidates. The teacher will set up her classroom to do mock voting. As an extension , students could be encouraged to go vote with their parents and draw or write something about their experience to share with the class.
