comprehending, and mindfully, after having overcome desire and sorrow in
regard to the world; when you dwell contemplating feelings in feelings, the
mind in the mind, and mental objects in mental objects, earnestly, clearly
comprehending, and mindfully, after having overcome desire and sorrow in
regard to the world, then, truly, you are an island unto yourself, a refuge unto
yourself, seeking no external refuge; having the Dhamma as your island, the
Dhamma as your refuge, seeking no other refuge."

"This birth and death is the life of the buddha. If you try to exclude it, you will
lose the life of buddha. If you cling to it, trying to remain in it, you will also lose
the life of buddha and what remains will be the mere form of buddha. Only when
you don't dislike birth and death or long for them, do you enter buddha's mind.

However, do not analyze it or speak about it. Just set aside your body and mind,
forget about them, and throw them into the house of buddha; then all is done by
buddha. When you follow this, you are free from birth and death and become a
buddha without effort or calculation. Who then continues to think?"

"To meditate deeply you find out that even ideas like
'being' and 'non-being', 'birth' and 'death', 'coming' and 'going'
are wrong ideas.
If you can touch reality in depth, you realize that suchness, or ultimate reality,
is free from 'birth', from 'dying', from 'coming', from 'going',
from 'being', from 'non-being'.
That is why nirvana is first of all the removal of notions - of ideas -
that serve as the basis of misunderstanding and suffering.
The notion of death cannot be applied to reality.
There is a transformation.
There is a continuation.
But you cannot say that there is death, because in your mind to die means from
something you suddenly become nothing, from someone you suddenly
become noone. And so the notion of death cannot apply to reality, whether to
a cloud or to a human being.
Ideas like 'being born', 'dying', 'coming and going', 'being and non-being',
should be removed by the practice of looking deeply.
And when you can remove these notions, you are free and you have non-fear.
Nirvana can be translated as 'freedom'.
Freedom from views.
And in Buddhism,
all views are wrong views."

This naturally originating inner radiance, uncreated from the very beginning,
Is the parentless child of awareness how amazing!
It is the naturally originating pristine cognition, uncreated by anyone how
amazing!
[This radiant awareness] has never been born and will never die how
amazing!
Though manifestly radiant, it lacks an [extraneous] perceiver how amazing!
Though it has roamed throughout cyclic existence, it does not degenerate
how amazing!
Though it has seen buddhahood itself, it does not improve how amazing!
Though it is present in everyone, it remains unrecognized how amazing!
Still, one hopes for some attainment other than this how amazing!
Though it is present within oneself, one continues to seek it elsewhere how
amazing!
