Transitions
1/26/17

What strategies do you do to help with transitions?

She show clear expectations and instructions. She also uses whole brain learning

strategies.

What Kind of strategies have you tried to help with transitions that didnt work? Why did they

not work?

Not having clear instructions or expectations. It is important to always follow through

with something otherwise the desired behavior will not be adapted.

Do you feel like the classroom layout has a direct impact on transitions? What have you altered

in your classroom layout?

The classroom layout has I direct impact on transitions. If something is blocking the way

it will back up or slow down the transition. She uses 4 hexagon tables instead of desks to

have more students at a table and to balance out the space in the classroom. If there is too

much open space in the classroom, the students will use that space to run around instead

of being safe.

What do you think happens during transitions that slows down the process?

When students get confused on the instructions it will slow down the transition. The

students will not know what is expected of them and will easily get distracted.
What transition do you feel is the hardest transition? Subject to subject? Classroom to lunch or

specials? Floor activities to seats?

Transitions to lunch/recess/specials seem to take the longest but switching from subject to

subject can be more mentally draining, so the students may need a brain break such as

GoNoodle.

How do you effectively implement transitions in kindergarten?

Start at the beginning, have clear instructions and expectations and always follow

through.
