INFORMATION BRAKE FLUID DOT 4

Technical data Boiling point : 265 C (509 F)

 Wet boiling point : 170 C (338 F)

Standard The brake fluid must meet the standard DOT 4 motor vehicle brake fluid conform to
the US safety standard FMVSS 5711.116 / DOT4 / DOT3, SAE-specification J 1703
(superseding 70 R1 and 70 R3) and ISO 4925.

Handling Can be mixed with all fluids which fulfill these specifications.
Keep brake fluid clean and dry.
Store brake fluid only in its original container. Keep container closed to
prevent absorption of moisture.
Follow maintenance instructions for adding or respectively changing
brake fluid.
Do NOT mix brake fluid with oil
Do NOT use ordenary grease to lubriacte brake components

Attention !
Do not refill the system or original container and do not use for other liquids !
Contamination with dirt, water, petroleum products, mineral oil or other materials may
result in system failure and can destroy the complete circuits. Only use brand liquid
from BENDIX (BOSCH), PENTOSIN or ATE - TEVES !

INFORMATION HYDRAULIC INSTALLATION & SERVICING

The hydraulic installation for the brake is designed for use of car brake fluid
DOT3 & DOT4. These liquids may be mixed. If mineral oil based liquids are used in
the system the rubber sealings may swell and thus lead to malfucntion of the entire
system.

Example - Swelling of dust booth treated Example - Swelling of master cylinder

with mineral oil based copper paste primary cup seal treated with mineral oil
based grease or using mineral oil instead
of brakefluid DOT3 / DOT
Attention !
When servicing brake systems NEVER EVER use mineral oil based grease or liquids.
It is recommended to use assembly paste like ATE blue, Daikalube 528D or others for
DOT3 & 4 only.

DOT3 & DOT4 VERSUS MINERAL OIL HOW TO IDENTIFY

DOT3 & DOT4 are liquids which are hygroscopic. That means it absorbes water,
where as mineral oil will not mix with water. Mineral oil is lighter than water and thus
floats on it. Brake fluid is very agressiv and leads to corrosion. As per our experience,
there is no paint that can withstand brakefluid. So spilled brakefluid must immediatelly
be cleaned with a lot of pure water. If brakefluid finds cracks in paintings or powder
coated parts, it will undermine it and corrosion will take place under it lifting off the
paint or coating material. DOT3 of ATE might be found in blue colour, where as DOT4
is coming in yellow colour. This easily can create confusion.

Brakefluid immediatelly mixes with water Temperature of the mix is rising

Stiring will mix water and brakefluid and colour changes to look like milk
Did you ever drink a Pernod, Raki or Ouzo with water ? Doesn't it look like this ?!
