Why metaphors are not just another literary device?

Generally, metaphor can be viewed as an indirect comparison between

two of more unrelated subject that generally utilized is a as the conjunction
or the linker of the subjects that being associated. Normally, if one tries to
interpret a metaphor by its literal meaning (word by word), it could cause the
user of the metaphor to sounds nonsensical if, it doesnt fit the situations or
circumstances. According to Lakoff and Johnson, metaphor is form of
conceptual mental operation related to human and it enables
speakers to structure and interpret abstract form of knowledge (not
the literal part of it). As defined, speakers who utilized metaphors should be
able to use a familiar area of knowledge (source domain) in order to
understand the less familiar area of knowledge (target domain).

Metaphor is more than just another literary devices that are integrated
by someone in order to flowerized or glamorized something.

Why metaphors are not just another literary device?

Metaphor is more than just another literary device that is integrated by

someone in order to flowerized or glamorized something. There are more
to metaphor that one could normally realized as we use metaphor so much
in our daily life, be it consciously or unconsciously. As mentioned by Lakoff
and Johnson; the way we think, what we experience and what we do every
day is very much a matter of metaphor.

A metaphor generally understood by its feature that emphasized a form of

conceptual similarities between different experiences. It can be viewed as
a tool that helps or facilitate one to understand something better by
enabling one to relate his or her experiences to another situation that being
mentioned, especially when it was mention for the first time in a form of
information or statement.
For example, integrating metaphor, one will easily create a sense of
familiarity that will consequently evoke a better understanding on certain
issue or topic. For example,

not face any problem in explaining abstract or complex concept.

human thought processes are largely metaphorical

The essence of metaphor is understanding and experiencing one

kind of thing in terms of another.

explain abstract or complex concepts

create a sense of familiarity

trigger emotions

metaphors are used for expressions that are not easy to explain with literal
language. This refers mostly to abstract ideas

people can express ideas more detailed and compact with metaphors.

expressions are made more clear and livened up.

They lead to a kind of an intimate atmosphere between the speakers

- This creates a link based on same or , at least, similar experiences and

interests. Therefore, not everybody gets an access to the conversation
between the two

Sometimes, speakers want their listeners to know about their attitudes or interests.
This can also be done by a special language, a kind of indirect expressions.

For example, when one said; I froze when I was my ex-boyfriend, she didnt
mean that she froze, turning into a block of ice with the temperature of zero
degree when she saw her ex-boyfriend but it rather a figure of speech used
to explain the condition of becoming totally still when she saw her ex-
boyfriend. In understanding the mentioned example, it takes no time for
someone to understand the intended meaning as the metaphor used is so
common our culture and society.
Integrating metaphor, one will be able to explain abstract or complex concepts that
literal words cannot explain.

one will easily create a sense of familiarity that will consequently evoke a better
understanding on certain issue or topic. For example,

Brian: Mom, Im dog tired after the camp.

Mom: Thats good. You should rest now.

In the example above, the speaker; Brian, used dog tired as a metaphor for his
condition of being exhausted. The mother understands Brians condition
immediately as the metaphor dog tired carries the meaning where Brian (as in the
example) is extremely physically exhausted after coming back from a camp yet, he
is happy that he joined the camp.

Amin, used black sheep as a metaphor for himself, being that one out of place or
the different child in his family.
