Installation instructions for BMW DIS in VMware

1. Power up WINXP INPA vmware image (just boot up to the desktop. There is no need to run the inpa
program).

2. On the vmware workstation home menu select open a Virtual machine. Navigate to the DIS V57-
V44CIP-TIS ENG VM folder on your computer and select the DIS V57-V44CIP-TIS ENG.vmx
configuration file. Then Click open.
3. Select the DIS tab in VMware and click power on this virtual machine to start the boot process. A
message will now appear saying This virtual machine might have been moved or copied. Click I
copied it.

4. Now leave your computer alone and allow it to boot up (may take a few minutes). It should now boot
to the DIS main screen.

Note: If it doesnt boot to main screen and it just shows a blank screen for a long time then right click on
the DIS tab, scroll to power > reset.

5. Go back to your running WINXP INPA vmware and run IFHSRV32.EXE program using the icon on
the desktop.
 Note: If DIS VMware has captured your mouse pointer then hold down Ctrl + Alt key to release it.

6. Start the Diaghead emulator from the Diaghead shortcut on the desktop & click run.

7. Now go back to your running DIS VMware. Go to full screen mode. Click Administration. Then on
the admin menu click Connection setup. You should now see your free emulated diagnostic head.

8. Click the Connecting Button. It should now connect. The emulator in WINXP INPA VM should
show connected.
9. Connect your INPA cable to your car and make sure its icon is active in the WINXP INPA VM. If its
not active then right click on the icon and select connect (disconnnect from host).

10. Now you can go to the DIS main screen and start diagnosing and fixing your car.
You can view the technical documents by selecting TIS from the menu (you do not need to have the
emulator running or the cable connected to your car to use the TIS section). Before shutting down the
DIS software, please read the note below and advice section.

Note: to safely shutdown the DIS software it is recommended that you use the following method.

a) Go to administration. Then on the DIS menu select calibrating touch shield.

b) Enter 12345 as the password.
c) On the Easy-Dis menu type in 0 and press enter to shutdown.

Advice Note 1

After you have set everything up the first time I recommend that you take a VMware snapshot. This
will enable you to do a fast start of DIS next time. Go back to DIS main screen. Right click on the
DIS tab, scroll to snapshot and click take snapshot. Label it Fast start DIS.
To do a fast start right click on the DIS tab then go to snapshot > 1. Fast start Dis. It should load up
in less than 30 seconds.

Advice Note 2

Once you have set up your Diaghead connection for the first time you should not have to do it again the
next time you start DIS. All you have to do is:

a) Load up the DIS VMware image (normal start up or from snapshot)

b) Start the IFHSRV32.exe program from the WINXP INPA VM
c) Start the diaghead emulator from the WINXP INPA VM and click run. It should now connect to
DIS automatically.
d) Connect INPA cable to car.
