Learning objectives: By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
a. fill in the blanks with the correct letters.

Activities :
Subject a. Introduction:
English
1. Recap previous lesson by getting the pupils to sing ABC song.
a. Pre writing:
1. Put up the alphabet chart on the board. (appendix 1)
2. Guide the pupils to read the letters of the alphabet.
Class
3. Introduce the small and capital letters to pupils.
Year 1
4. Trace the letter one by one in the air and sound the letter.
5. Example: Trace the letter s in the air and say /s/.
6. Show the correct formation and direction of each letter.
TIME 7. Get the pupils to do the action and sound the letter at the same time.
b. While writing:

(60 minutes) 1. Activity 1:


Distribute worksheet to pupils.
Pupils fill in the blanks with the correct letters.
2. Activity 2:
Play a writing race, with the class in two/three teams.

Attendance: Show pupils one of the letter cards, either small or capital letters.
One pupil from each team must race to write the corresponding small or
capital letters on the board.
c. Post writing:
1. Get the pupils to turn to AB page 9.
2. Guide the pupils to write the alphabet neatly.
2. Discuss the answers with the pupils.
d. Closure:
1. With a partner, pupils practise writing small and capital letters on each others
back.
