Why should we recycle
Recycling saves energy because the manufacturer doesn't have to produce something new from raw natural resources. By
using recycled materials we save on energy consumption, which keeps production costs down. Recycling reduces the
need for more landfills. No one wants to live next to a landfill.
How we can use Terracycle in ESA
Terracycle is a program that we can use as rewards for recycling. But
you cant do it just like that, we need to make it work.First we need a
account for terracycle. second we order the boxes which we put the
recyclables in the box. We can use this with other programs like Feed
The Bin where we put it in the box and get rewards then Feed The Bin
picks it up and recycles it. We should do Terracycle because, (cont on

Are you a newly designated recycling coordinator or point of contact for the Feed the Bin Program?
Or perhaps, your school doesnt have one? Being a FTB Recycling Coordinator is all about serving as a
point-of-contact for us on behalf of your school campus. School recycling coordinators keep in touch
with us so that we can get you the materials you need to help make your school recycling efforts run
smoothly. They also help communicate any truck pick up changes to their school staff. If youd like
someone to meet with you or to answer any questions please contact us! No time for
another-meeting? Just send an email to us at Feed Bin@wakegov.com or call the program phone
line at 919-856-6006. To find out what day your paper recycling carts are picked up CLICK HERE. Or visit
our program webpage at www.wakegov.com/recycling/recycle For can, bottle and tray recycling pick up
information, contact your cafeteria manager or Child Nutrition Services. Cans, plastic bottles, and
Its that time of year when everyone is on the hunt for more recycling containers to collect cans & plastic bottles.
In the past, Wake County Solid Waste Management has provided 32-gallon round recycling cans as a courtesy
to support Child Nutrition Services who pays for and manages that contract. Due to the increased costs in the
paper recycling collection this year we are unable to provide these containers. However, Child Nutrition
Services will provide them for school cafeteria-use only. Speak with your cafeteria manager for further
assistance. Last year I mentioned that a new contract was going to be in place that might allow our schools to
recycle everything in one bin. The Wake County Solid Waste Management Division continued to meet with the
WCPSS Departments involved with the trash and/or recycling aspects of the program and it was decided that
all contracts would be renewed or extended for another year. In a nutshell, we will continue to collect everything
as normal during this school year. Please continue to collect paper only in the green bins and outside carts and
put plastic bottles & cans in the cafeteria collection bins (in clear bags) to be picked separately. Lets cross our
fingers for a 1-bin system next year! Thank you for your patience. Feed the band started in 2007 as a pilot
project through Keep Greenville Beautiful with three schools. The program has grown each year
since then due to grant money and several schools supplying their own funding to bring the total
to 14. In 2010-2011, Feed The Bin added all of the remaining schools in the county. This brought
the total to 36 schools including two private.
Today FTB is a partnership between Pitt County Solid Waste and Recycling, the City of Greenville
Recycling, Keep Greenville Beautiful, ECU Recycling, ECVC and Waste Industries.

Feed the Bin was able to provide helpful information about the program to Head Custodians and Area Custodial
Supervisors. Many came to the table to get information on who their school recycling coordinator (i.e. contact
person) is and to pick up some recycled freebies as well! Remember to pass along pertinent recycling
information to your custodial staff so that they can assist you when needed. If you want your Head Custodian
included in the email distribution list for notices on recycling truck pick up changes send an email to Becky

FEED THE BIN is a county-sponsored paper recycling program that provides
funding for mixed paper recycling at each Wake County Public School System
(WCPSS) School and public charter schools. It also provides complimentary
educational resources for students and teachers. Although the program is mainly
targeted at students who are in attendance in the countys public schools it is the
intent to reach the majority of the Wake County population as the students share
information regarding solid waste and recycling with their families. Since its
inception in 2004, the program has proven to be very successful not only in
promoting recycling and reducing waste at school sites but, also in educating
