se inicia una nueva era de la astronoma


Un equipo liderado por la fsica cordobesa Gabriela Gonzlez en EE.UU. comprob la
existencia de ondas gravitacionales. As, se completa la teora de la relatividad
formulada hace un siglo.

Un grupo de cientficos encabezados por la argentina Gabriela Gonzlez detect por


primera vez la existencia de ondas gravitacionales, algo que haba anticipado Albert
Einstein hace un siglo en su Teora de la Relatividad General. El descubrimiento
conmovi ayer a la comunidad cientfica mundial, no solo porque abre una nueva era en
las investigaciones astronmicas sino porque potencia an ms al genio revolucionario
de Einstein. Todo lo que pens l solo hace 100 aos, con la simple ayuda de un lpiz y
un papel, es lo que estamos viviendo hoy, dijo Federico Lombardo, director del
Departamento de Fsica de la Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales de la UBA.

Estamos todos como locos, dijo ayer Gonzlez, la fsica argentina que trabaja en la
Universidad de Louisiana y que comanda al grupo de ms de 1.000 investigadores de 20
pases. Creo que Einstein estara muy contento, agreg.

Demostrar la existencia de estas ondas era el ltimo reto pendiente de la Teora de la


Relatividad General, que Einstein formul en 1915. Ayer, cientficos de todo el mundo
coincidieron en que este hallazgo es un broche de oro para la teora formulada en el ao
1915.

Lombardo tambin indic que esta comprobacin es una de las grandes noticias, y que
podra ser objeto de un Premio Nobel: abre la puerta a episodios ms importantes de ac
al futuro, estudiar el Universo de una manera que no conocamos sin telescopios ni
antenas de radio.
