SILENT READING
Reading is the door and the window to see the
world. By reading, we are able to get a variety
of information and new knowledge. Unfortu-
nately, most young children in Indonesia still
have low interest in reading.

Silent Reading is a program in which stu-

dents are required to read written material
other than textbooks, such as newspapers,
magazines, novels, and other forms of written
literature with educational themes. They can
get the reading material in the school library.

The Silent Reading is done every Monday

to Friday in the morning starting from 7:00 to
7:30 prior to the start of the learning process in
the classroom. Every week, the development
of this activity will be controlled by the teach-
ers of language and academic division through
the creation of a personal reading journal for
each learner. An attempt to cultivate the habit
of reading for a better life.

CREATIVE LEARNING
Innovation and creativity provide colorful and interesting ways in a learning process. There-
fore, the educational process can get out of the grip of conventional rigid ideas towards flex-
ibility and change. This situation pushes teachers and students to try to think out of the box,
in creating a new, comfortable, conducive, creative, and fun learning atmosphere.

Students of Bali Mandara vocational high school each day dedicate 360 minutes to follow the
school formal learning process. The learning process conducted not only in the classroom,
but also outside the classroom as in laboratory, workshops, and in open nature. This is sup-
ported by the moving class system that allows students not only to learn in one particular
class room, but also to move to another room in accordance with the conditions of learning
and learning needs. In fact, the learning process can also be done at night from 19:00 to 21:00
oclock as a form of implementation of the previous evening classes, which are flexibly coordi-
nated between subject teachers concerned with students in the classroom. All matters relat-
ing to the learning process have been planned and organized very well by the academic team.

THE CALLING

The Calling is the final ritual within the Students Orientation Activities (MOPDB). The main
objective of The Calling is to reiterate and emphasize that these students had answered their
first Calling, i.e. to change their future to be better by studying in Bali Mandara Senior and
Vocational high School (BALI Academy). In addition, this ritual aims to make the students real-
ize about their true calling. Students can set goals and his future by understanding the ability,
ambition, and their potential respectively.

The Calling consists of Time Capsule and Bonfire. In the Time Capsule, new students write
their dreams and ideals on a piece of paper and put into a small bottle which will be stored
securely in a locked crate and was called The Calling Chest. The key to the crate is just held
by the Principal and will be opened in the next 3 years after they finish their education in Bali
Mandara Vocational High School. The time capsule is only read by themselves and serve as a
reminder of their True Calling.

The next event is a bonfire. In this event, students sit around the bonfire and write their chal-
lenges, obstacles, and the biggest fear in achieving their dreams on plywood blade, called the
Barrier Board. One by one, then put their Barrier Board on bricks (with the writing facing up)
and said I can Because I believe I can. Then, the students broke their board with their hand
as a symbol of beating their obstacle in achieving their dream.

eventually change the physical and mind to a better state, said the Director of Consciousness
Based Education province of Bali, I Wayan Sutrisna in the International Seminar on Conscious-

The importance and benefits of transcendental meditation is the basis for its application in

do it twice a day (in the morning before starting the learning process and in the afternoon
after the learning process). By doing this activity, body and mind can be refreshed in order to

Ive learned that people will forget what you said.
People will forget what you did.
But, people will never forget how you made them feel.
~Maya Angelou
Not all of us can do great things.
But we can do small things with great love.

Chorus:
Like an eagle we spread our wings
Soaring high in the sky of dreams
Always strive to be the very best
And help other to soar as high

We remember the starts

We will go trough the journey
We will reach the goals
Lets lend our hands to our brothers and sisters
Lets make a brighter tomorrow for others
Make their impossible dreams possible
For when we believe when we are together
We can make a difference
