ABSTRACT
The present study has as its main theme the eating disorders seen in the
contemporaneity as disturbances in the alimentary behavior of the individual. It has
been the target to investigate what the view of Behavioral Cognitive Therapy, Gestalt
Therapy and Alternative / Complementary Therapies has regarding such disorders as
well as deal with and understand this theme. It is a qualitative research of an
exploratory way in which data were collected through bibliographic review. It has
been noticed that there is a growing search for the addition of alternative therapies to
conventional therapies in the treatment of eating disorders as a way to extend the
benefits to the persons well-being, in order to understand this individual as a
multidimensional being. Through this work it can be concluded that there is a
consensus among the three areas studied that is the importance of treating the
person with eating disorder through multidisciplinarity among professionals.
