2.3 SCALE

During excavation work, the progress of the excavating tool comes on display in a con-
tinuous way on a two-part graphic.

The graphic has graduated horizontal lines representing the depth and graduated verti-
cal lines representing sideward deviations.

One part of the graphic indicates deviations made in the X axis and the other indicates
deviations made in the Y axis.

The scale of the graphic is adjustable both in the vertical and the horizontal. To adjust it
to your individual requirements, proceed as follows.

In the "Adjustments" menu, touch the field "Adjust Scale" and the following display
appears:

skaling

Using the two uppermost arrows, set first the required depth (metres) of the excava-
tion. The depth is always negative wherefore the number is preceded by a "-" mark.

Using the respective arrows in the display, then set the desired scale for the presen-
tation ot the sideward deviations (for example from -25 cm to +25 cm).

Touch "Cancel" if your entry is to be ignored or if you want to change it.

Or, touch "OK" to confirm the setting.

B-Tronic / 2006 2-7

ADJUSTMENTS

2.4 GRAB

Some parameters concerning the size of the grab used must be entered into the control
system.

The three parameters required here are the expected distance which the grab will pene-
trate through the soil until the shovels are full ("Depth per cycle"), the size of the open
shovels in the X axis and the size of the shovels in the Y axis.

In the "Adjustments" menu, touch the field "Grab" and the following display appears:

grab

Using the two upper right arrows, set the correct "X" dimension of the open shovels
in the X field.

Using the two lower right arrows, set the correct "Y" dimension of the shovels in the
Y field.

Using the two left arrows, set the expected "Depth per cycle".

B-Tronic / 2006 2-8

ADJUSTMENTS

Be aware that the progress per cycle is dependent on several criteria

including the size and shape of the shovels.
Therefore, it is recommendable not to set a value here that exceeds the
NOTE
height of the shovels.

Touch "Cancel" if your entry is to be ignored or if you want to change it.

Or, touch "OK" to confirm the setting.

In both cases you will return to the "Adjustments" menu.

the operating screen.

B-Tronic / 2006 2-9

ADJUSTMENTS

2.5 DEPTH

The registration of the depth of the grab is dependent on several parameters which
must be adjusted in order that the control be absolutely correct.

In the "Adjustments" menu, touch the field "Adjust Depth" and the following display
appears:

depth1

Which is a sub-menu with which you can proceed as described in the following.

B-Tronic / 2006 2 - 10
ADJUSTMENTS

2.5.1 Calibration Value

The depth value indicated by the control system must correspond with the actual depth
made by the grab, wherefore the following adjustment is necessary.

In the "Adjust Depth" sub-menu (see the foregoing page), touch the field "Calibration
Value" and the following display appears:

depth2

Where a value equivalent with the difference between the actual depth and the indi-
cated depth must be entered.

Actual depth
In other words: "Calibration value" =
Indicated depth

Fit the end of a measuring tape to the lower end of the grab, and lower the grab
down the trench by for example 10 metres as read-off on the tape.

Using the arrows in the display, enter your correct value of calibration.

EXAMPLE: Actually read-off depth = 10 m

Indicated depth = 9.98 m
Calibration value = 1.002 m

Entering a value of 1.002 would in this case make the depth indication change to 10 m,
which is correct.

B-Tronic / 2006 2 - 11
ADJUSTMENTS

Touch "Cancel" if your entry is to be ignored or if you want to change it.

Or, touch "OK" to confirm the setting.

In both cases you will return to the "Adjust Depth" sub-menu.

The big black dot to the right of the grab in the display represents the grab when it is
still. As soon as the grab is moved to the side, the dot will change into a direction indi-
cating arrow.

Check that the directions displayed correspond with the actual movements of the
grab.

If the directions are in order, the respective incremental transducers are correctly con-
nected.

B-Tronic / 2006 2 - 12
ADJUSTMENTS

2.5.2 Basic Settings

For correct depth measuring, the control system must have been fed with some pa-
rameters concerning the items involved in the measuring. Depending on your type of
equipment, the measuring takes place either on the storage reel for the electric cable to
the grab OR on the grab hoist winch. They are both called "Drum" in this context,
whereas the cable or rope is called "Line". Check or readjust as follows until the values
of all the parameters apply to your equipment.

In the "Adjust Depth" sub-menu, touch the field "Basic Settings" and the following
display appears:

depth3-1

Where the values can be readjusted by means of the respective arrows.

Enter here your applicable values for

- the diameter of the drum
- the diameter of the line
- the number of wraps per layer on the drum
- the transmission ratio of drum: transducer
(after having determined the diameters of both gears)
- the number of line parts used (with electric cable the number is always 1)
- the number of pulses sent by the incremental transducer (is indicated on its name-
plate)

Touch "Cancel" if your entry is to be ignored or if you want to change it.

Or, touch "OK" to confirm the setting.
In both cases you will return to the "Adjust Depth" sub-menu.

B-Tronic / 2006 2 - 13
ADJUSTMENTS

2.5.3 Layers on Drum

The next step in the adjustment of the depth is to enter the actual number of cable lay-
ers on your cable reel (or rope layers on your hoist winch, depending on your equip-
ment).

Unwind or rewind until the uppermost layer on the drum is complete.

In the sub-menu "Adjust Depth", touch the field "Layers on Drum" and the following
display appears:

depth4

Using the two arrows in the display, enter the actual number of cable (or rope) layers
on the drum involved in the measuring.

FILE OPERATIONS

To export:

This possibility lets you transfer data onto an external recording medium (e.g. a
PCMCIA card) in a readable format (ASCII), enabling you to treat them later in another
program.

Proceed in exactly the same way as described in To copy (see the foregoing page), but
touch the field "Export" instead of the field "Copy".

When you use "Copy" or "Export", the selected data will NOT be de-
leted from the storage of the grab control system.
NOTE
Deletion of data can be executed exclusively by the "Delete" com-
mand.

MEASURING

8 MEASURING

Although depths and deviations come continuously on display during the excavation
operations, it is recommended to carry out a thorough measuring of the excavation in
regular intervals. This should be done in 3 to 4 steps for each cut, like in the following
example.

EXAMPLE: A cut of -30.00 m to be measured in 4 steps

= Each step will be 7.50 m long:

1st to -7.50 m
2nd to -15.00 m
3rd to -22.50 m
4th to -30.00 m

In each step, bearing points will be taken for example 5 times = every 1.50 m in this
case:

1st at -1.50 m
2nd at -3.00 m
3rd at -4.50 m
4th at -6.00 m
5th at -7.50 m

The measuring of the 1st step down to -7.50 m is described in the following.

MEASURING

To carry out the measuring:

Touch the field "Measuring" so that the word changes into "Set point" which indicates
that a Measuring mode is on.

Now, in the Measuring mode, insert the grab in the trench. In this mode, the move-
ments of the grab are not shown in the graph:

MEASURING

Let the grab down to -1.50 m.

Wait until the inclination indications are still.

Then touch the field "Set point".

After which the direction of the excavated cut down to -1.50 m appears in the graph:

MEASURING

Let the grab down to -3.00 m (no movement in the graph).

Wait until the inclination indications are still.

Then touch the field "Set point".

After which the direction of the excavated cut down to -3.00 m appears in the graph:

MEASURING

Let the grab down to -4.50 m (no movement in the graph).

Wait until the inclination indications are still.

Then touch the field "Set point".

After which the direction of the cut down to -4.50 m appears in the graph:

MEASURING

Let the grab down to -6.00 m.

Wait until the indications are still.

Touch the field "Set point".

After which a cut down to -6.00 m appears in the graph:

MEASURING

To finish the measuring procedure:

Touch the field "Stop" and you will get out of the Measuring mode.

The measured data are stored and the fields "Stop" and "Set point" disappear from
the screen.

Touch the field "Print", and a log of the measured step will be printed out.
