This is an introductory course aimed at providing students with the fundamental concepts
of business mathematics which form the foundation for their study in later years. These
concepts are essential since the students will encounter these components in business
related environment.

At the end of this module the students will be able to:


1. Reproduce and relate the functions of interest in ordinary life and business.
2. Interpret the time value of money for investment and loan purposes.
3. Apply and perform computation on the relevant property amortisation schedule.
4. Prepare relevant business trade projections or investments projections.
5. Conclude business options based on the trade projections or investments

11. Teaching-learning strategy

Teaching and learning will be via lecture, collaborative learning, group discussion, and
tutorial works. Students will also be required to do their own self-study for certain topics
and assignments

Assessment strategy:

Students learning will be assessed using in classroom test, individual and/or group
assignment. Peer evaluation will be part of the assessment of a team work.

12. Synopsis

This unit will cover general business mathematics involving interest calculation, annuity,
trade discounts and income taxation. It emphasizes on developing students mathematical
competencies in the area of business segment. The main method of delivery combines
lecture, tutorial and drill with occasional discussions to generate interest.
