Vulnerability of the Municipality of Bontoc to Climate Change Impacts

Climate Change

It is the change in the statistical distruction of weather patterns when that change
lasts for an extended period of time. Climate change may refer to a change in average
weather conditions, or in the time variation of weather around longer-term average
conditions.

Climate change is caused by factors such as biotic processes, variations in solar

radiation received by earth and tectonic plates. Also certain human activities have also
been identified as significant causes of recent climate change, often referred to as global
warming.

Scientists actively work to understand past, present, and future climate by using
observations and theoretical models.

Terminology

The most general definition of climate change is a change in the statistical properties
(principally its mean and spread) of the climate system when considered over long period of
time, regardless of cause.

The term sometimes is used to refer specifically to climate change caused by human
activity, as opposed to changes in climate that may have resulted as part of the natural
processes.

Bontoc Mountain Province

Here in Bontoc, some people do not care about their surroundings thats why global
warming turning into a climate change will occur. With a focus, on municipality climate
change phenomena, people were aiming to verify how climate change affects vulnerable
terrains: For instance, how does a global change impact the mountains and the river here
in Bontoc? What are likely consequences as regards land use, vegetation, and development
projects? Or vise versa: How does intensive land use affect our climate? What are the limits
of model-based climate change predictions? What does this imply for prospective urban
planning, governance, safety and infrastructure?

Economic Impacts of Climate Change

All environmental and social impacts of climate change have consequences on

many sectors across the economy. Examples are increased frequency and magnitude of
extreme weather events will affect the insurance industry, causing greater damage and
higher loss volatility (change in a very sudden or extreme way) to property/casualty, life and
health insurance.

Falag-ey, A.D. (2016, December 11), stated that impacts on human health will
expand the need for health cares and add stress to existing health care systems. The
province of Bontoc industry may also be impacted at different levels, based on their asset,
vulnerability to climate change.

The Effect

According to Molina (2016, December 12), one of the effect of global warming or the
climate change is the weather. Sometimes it turns hot and sometimes cold. The chico river
is slowly drying up. Unusual strong typhoon occurs, sometimes mountain fires occur
because of people burning the trees, and plants are drying up. Pollution is every where.

Level of Vulnerability

There is somewhat a high degree or level of vulnerability in the place if we do act in

preserving our environment (Amboni, 2016 December 11).

The Method

Ba-awa, P. (2016, December 09) shares that to lessen the possibility of the climate
change, people should avoid burning plants/trees because the pollution can affect the
ozone layer or the atmosphere. We should guard our mountains against illegal logging so
that if it will rain hard, the water can be stable and can flow freely. We should do
environmental clean up to avoid pollution on air and everywhere. Tree planting to change
the trees that were cut before and lastly we should segregate our waste.

Concluding Observations

My objectives on this paper was to present the views on climate change and
resource sustainability that have been widely accepted in Bontoc Mountain Province.

We have limited resources. There are limits to what are people doing in our
environment. We all need to change the way we live to achieve a proper balance (Agcapen,
December 09).
