Gauge: 12 dc & 6 rows = 4 with size I/9 (5.5 mm) hook

Stitches/Terms: beginning (beg), chain (ch), single crochet (sc), double crochet (dc), repeat
(rep), slip stitch (sl st), space (sp), stitch (st)

Rectangle (make 4 total - 2 in Color A, 2 in Color B)

1
Row 1: Chain 103, dc in 4th ch from hook and ea ch across (101 dc)

Row 2: Ch 3, turn, dc in first 2 dc, *ch 1, skip 1 dc, dc in next dc, rep from * across, ending with
dc in ea of last 3 dc (48 sps)

Row 3: Ch 3, turn, dc in ea dc and sp across (101 dc)

Row 4: Ch 3, turn, dc in first 3 dc, *ch 1, skip 1 dc, dc in next dc, rep from * across, ending dc in
ea of last 4 dc (47 sps)

Row 5: Ch 3, turn, dc in ea dc and sp across (101 dc)

Repeat Rows 2-5 for 10 (total of 15 rows) or for desired width of piece (half of total width desired
for front or back.) Fasten off.

Edging: Attach contrast color to one side of rectangle, ch 1, sc evenly around entire rectangle,
placing one sc in ea dc on long sides, and 2 sc along sides of dc stitches on short sides of piece.
Join with sl st and fasten off.

Repeat for 3 more rectangles.

Center front seam: Hold one Color A rectangle wrong sides together with one Color B rectangle.
Attach contrast color with slip stitch through back loops only of dc stitches, approx. 10 down from
top edge. Slip stitch through back loop of ea dc stitch on both pieces until you reach the lower
edge of piece. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Center back seam: Repeat instructions for center front seam, but begin back seam approx. 6
down from top edge of piece.

Shoulder seams: Hold front wrong sides together with back at shoulder, attach contrast yarn, slip
stitch across shoulder seam, this time working through both loops of dc stitches for stability.
Repeat for second shoulder seam.
Finishing: With contrast yarn, work 1 round slip stitch all around neck opening and all around
outside edges of serape. Fasten off and weave in all ends. If necessary and appropriate for your
choice of yarn, consult care instructions on ball band and block serape lightly by laying it flat on
thick towels, then cover with damp towels and leave to dry.

Tassel: Holding one strand of each yarn together as one, wrap yarn around a 9 measure (book
or piece of cardboard) about 15 times. Tie strands together at the top, then cut lower edge of
strands. Wrap a separate length of yarn around tassel (about 1 below top) several times and tie
tightly, burying loose ends inside tassel. Attach top of tassel to center front about 1 down from
V-opening.

Side Ties (optional): If desired, chain ties can be made to hold front and back pieces together at
sides. With contrast yarn, chain 100, fasten off and tie ends in knots, burying yarn tails in the
knots. Thread ties through spaces at desired points on each side of serape and tie in a bow.
